Band negotiation

Has anyone had success negotiating with a band over their initial quote to play your reception? I'm just curious if anyone has been able to get knock off a few hundred dollars to keep in budget.

    I've been in contact with 2 bands, both negotiated down from their original offers.

    Yep. We knocked it down $400. We used No Idea and loved them!

    I know that we got both ceremony and reception bands for less than the 'quote'...not sure how much less b/c my husband did the booking for music.  I think a lot of bands are willing to negotiate.  An industry 'insider' has told me what different bands make for playing 'special events' versus just a regular old gig...they almost all charge WAY more to play an event like a wedding than what they get paid for a gig at a bar, club, etc., so even if they negotiate down, they're usually still coming out ahead.
