Re: Looking to drop 10 pounds before going dress shopping.....

  • I am in a similar boat, except my wedding is not untill May 2011.. So I started In Jan to get down to the weight i want to be and to stay there!

I have lost 12 pounds in 8 weeks. I ordered slim in 6 from Beachbody.com
Its similar to p90x but a little less intense muscle building and more about toning (definately more female oriented)

Its a fun workout and if you follow the steps and nutrition guide it definately works! I only have 10 more to go and I will be at my goal weight... So definately if you want something that is home based and has great results I would check out the website :)

    Good luck!

  • I would give yourself a month. Make an appointment somewhere. Then, if you are well on your way to losing, all you have to do is try on dresses, knowing you get to go down another size :) Then go back when you have lost the weight you want.

Yes, you need to get your dress soon, and they can fit it to you, but I went in months ago to look for the dress, i went down 2 sizes by the time i ordered. I just ordered and i won't have to have as many alterations done because I ordered the proper size for the wedding. All I have to do is the hem. Thats it! Also, save up for the dress now. As I was losing weight, i realized that I would probably need a certain size and kept calling different boutiques that had the style dress. On my last round, I found the size and was able to buy off the rack.

Ask how long it will take for the dresses to come in and how long you should leave for alterations BEFORE you tell them when your date is. They give themselved ample time, but if you know a timeline, you can give yourself ample time too.

    HOpe this helps.
    Good luck!

  • Hey there,
I bought my dress in August of last year, with a plan to lose some weight.  I read Skinny B*tch by Rory Freedman and Kim Barnouin in November, followed their advice, and lost 25 lbs by January.  The weight is *still* coming off, almost effortlessly.  When my dress arrived in February, my salon couldn't believe the weight I'd lost.  They've assured me, though, that making the necessary alterations to accommodate the smaller me is not going to be a problem, and I couldn't be happier.
    I hope this helps!
    Best,
    Kimberlee

  • cut out pop!!!  It is literallly like pouring fat over yourself and don't substitute with diet pop! It will make you crave more food.  Just drink plenty of water and start exercising.  Balance weight/ strength training  with cardio.  Good thing to do is start with like 20 minutes of cardio and then do your strength training and then 20 minutes of cardio again.  Don't stress if you need to skip a day of working out.  Being too strict with diet and exercise is just setting yourself up for diaster!  If you eat a cupcake, you won't die, just accept the cupcake and get back on track :)  Good luck, and buy your dress now!
  • hi, i felt the same. I did order my dress the size that i needed and then i found a book called the flat belly diet, and it says u can lose up to 15 lbs in 32 days, i lost 8lbs in 32 days, then my dress came in for me to try on, for the most part it fits i just need to get it taken in a little on top.
  •      You have to do something that you think will work before a wedding.

Typically, I love weight watchers and  lost about 40 college pounds on the program that I have kept off. The drawback is that for me, it is a little loose in terms of where you are spending your calories. Many brides like it though, and I believe in it for the long term. I wanted to do a program that was organized, easy, and had foods I enjoyed.

Although I probably won't do Jenny Craig forever because it is expensive, my mom and I have found it GREAT to do before my wedding. We have both lost about 10 pounds in 5 weeks. te food is good, and I don't feel deprived.

I also purchased weight loss hypnosis CDs from the internet that have been very helpful.

You'll do it, just pick something that you love and feel satisfied with!
