Honeymoon in HV.

Hello ladies of HV!

My FI and I are spending our HM in HV. We'll be in the Highland area. Do any of you have some good restaurant, recreational, historical, etc. recommendations you'd like to give us? Thanks in advance!

(We're already going to one of the CIA restaurants.)

You could check out the shanwangunk wine trail. There are a lot of wineries in the area.

There is also the FDR mansion which I have never been to but heard great things about.

I agree with all PP's recommendations. What about Bear Mountain, Vanderbilt Mansion or even West Point? There are some nice restaurants in Cold Spring...Hudson House is great.

Hey...I'm a little new to the hv area so I'm not sure about distance However, Restaurant X has an amazing brunch. Like total delicious gluttony lol.

Shadow's has a great SUnday brunch! Definately just go walking around New Paltz to all the little shops. Great little restaurants - Mexacali Blue., Bacchus, Gilded Otter!

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. We'll be sure to check out as many as we can!

I live in Kerhonkson, its about 5 min from Minnewaska State Park, always a beautiful hike! Also, the PP about Mohonk Mountain is right. You could head up there and hike the Lemon Squeeze, take a row boat out on the lake or go for brunch on Sunday. So yummy!

I live 20min from New Paltz and if you want great food, hit up Beso or 36 Main. Delish and so worth the price! There is also a B&B in New Paltz, the Le Ferve house (sp) You could spend a couple of nights there and check out the wine trail, Mohonk Mountain and Minnewaska.

    Good luck!!! :)

Rockland is exactly in the Hudson Valley, though.

I just never considered Rockland to be the Hudson Valley, I stand corrected. However, considering she'll be up in Highland, thats about an hours drive (or more). I live in Ulster and work in Rockland...that would be a hike for brunch!

    Oh yeah, definitely a hike.

Rockland is one of those in between places I guess. People in NYC consider it "upstate" and I guess some people who actually live farther upstate don't think it's really the HV.

Haha, poor lonely Rockland. : (

By the way, April - some people have mentioned Bear Mt. It's worth looking in to if it's not too far from the Highland area. They have a small zoo there (though you'd have to check to see if it's open around that time) and it's kind of a fun way to spend a couple of hours. A lot of nice scenery and some historical landmarks/statues in that area too.

If its Highland NY, thats gonna be a treck too. Unless ur looking at Highland Mills. But I assume Highland, which is in Ulster County. The shawangunk wine trail, minnewaska and monhonk along with the walk way over the hudson, vanderbuilt mansion and the like are all in closer proximity.
