  The Girls of Murder City - it's about the real life murderesses the play/movie Chicago is based on.
  
  Geisha: A Life - It's the actual memoir from the woman Memoirs of a Geisha was based on.

  Erik Larson's books- The Devil in the White City and In the Garden of Beasts are pretty good and cover events I didn't know much about.
  
  For fiction, A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness was pretty good.
  
  I also like Steve Berry and James Rollins for historical fiction.

  I don't know any historical non-fiction, but I just read The Blind Contessa's New Machine - historical fiction. It's about how the typewriter was invented for a woman who went blind, by her lower-class lover

  I LOVED Devil in the White City.
  
  There was another book that I really enjoyed and I can't remember the title. I'll take a look at my bookshelf and see if I can find it. It starts with the electroctuion of Topsy the Elephant on Coney Island during the AC vs DC battles in the last century.

  I'm almost finished with Miss Peregrine's home for Peculiar Children.  It was a little slow getting started, but now I'm really enjoying it.

  Completely fiction, but do you have any interest in The Game of Thrones books?   I'm halfway through the first one and I really like it.   And I don't usually do well with fantasy-type stuff.
