Morning!!

What is everyone up to?

I'm off today.  I have to buy one more gift for an 18 year old.  I totally forgot about her (she is the sister of our friend).  We are exchanges gifts tomorrow night and I do not want her to be the odd man out.  Any suggestions?

For the rest of the day I plan on doing nothing because after today I do not get a day off until next Tuesday.  Our crazy high needs guests are here and I really need a quiet day.

Re: Morning!!

  • I just got a message that I only have to work a half day today! GO ME! Then we're going to head home and hopefully beat the snow. Looks like it's going to get bad.

For the 18 year old, I'd get a basket and put in some slippers, a blanket, a good book/dvd, and some chocolate. (wine would be a good addition if she was over 21).

  • No day off until Tuesday?!  That stinks!

I'm at work today but off the rest of the week. I finished my Christmas baking last night but I still have 3 kids to shop for - a 15 year old, a 5 year old, and a 1 year old.  Way to wait to the last minute!  I also still have to wrap everything, but I should have no problems doing all of that tonight.  We're not leaving town until tomorrow morning.

Right now, I'm going to run downstairs to Starbucks and treat myself to a peppermint mocha.

That sounds nice.  Put we live in St Thomas, not too much need for slippers or blankets.

Good news in drinking age is 18.

edit:  Yay for getting off early.

  • I'm here.  We just have a half day today and have a potluck lunch at work.  Except that an e-mail went out yesterday asking people to let our manager know who will be coming even if you're not bringing anything.  Say what?  Isn't that the definition of a potluck??  Granted, I only signed up to bring soda, but still.

Have to shop for my family secret santa this afternoon.  I got my aunt and her only wish list things were "something book related, food related or plant related".  So I'm putting together a little herb garden kit and getting her a book on how to grow/use your own herbs.  BAM!  Plant, food AND book related!  Take that Aunt Jan!

  • Good Morning!

I like Fisches idea fo the 18 yr old.

Not much going on here today.  Need to go to the market to buy stuff for dinner tonight, Xmas eve dinner and Xmas breakfast,, but most stores are closed between 1 & 3...

Christmas Eve is the big holiday here, so I think we are going out to eat on Christmas day.

    Thankfully, no traveling for us.

  • Crazy guest storys:

We have a salt [water] pond on the property.  For environmental reasons it's againist the law to remove it.

We had a guest  YELL and DAMAND we remove the 'swamp'.   We explained it was not a swamp but a salt pond and it's againist the law to remove.  She then said she was a pathologist and we are stupid and do not know what we are talking about.  Then she wanted her room discounted because of the so called 'swamp'.

Yay... gotta to love these self entiled guests.

Who the hell knows? Some people love to complain and will make up shiit in order to get free stuff.  We see it every year.

  • And I totally left out the second part of my post. Giftcards are always good...something like an iTunes card maybe?
  • Morning, ladies! I'm here for a bit. I'm waiting for 2 more packages that should arrive via UPS today, then wrapping & shopping. We have nothing special planned till Christmas Day. Tomorrow J's dad goes in for surgery. Can I just say how sick and tired of surgeries, doctors and hospitals I am?
  • He's having surgery on Christmas Eve?

  • Yup! It was the only day his doc was available to do it. And it's kind of necessary to get done ASAP. Crazy, isn't it? J has to work a full day tomorrow so we're going straight to the hospital when he gets off.
  • Good morning! I'm the only one up in the house so far (I am at my brother's for the holidays). My girls are staying with their father and his wife, so I'm a bit morose about that. I pick them up Christmas Eve, so we all will be happier about that.

Today's plans include rolling 2 batches of truffles, buying some last minute stocking stuffers, getting my younger daughter a gift card to a bookstore, and keeping my neice and nephew out of my brother's hair while he is on a conference call for work this morning (he's working from home this week, which is nice).

I'm so sorry for your family.   I hope the surgery goes well and you will be able to have some sort of a christmas.

Scoetto - I hope everything goes okay tomorrow!

sarabellum - I made oreo cookie truffles last night!  I must have made them too big though because the recipe said it makes 48 but I only ended up with about 28. Oops!  They look good though.  :)

  • Thanks Dani & Lynda! He should be ok and out of the hospital that night or Christmas morning. My SIL just had surgery a week or so ago, and J is looking at another one (3 in less than 2 years). Hence the reason why I haven't been around much. Too much going on.
  • Good luck to him, Sco!

And Dani, yum! A friend from school made some at Christmas a couple of years ago, and that was my first introduction to them. And when it comes to truffles, bigger is ALWAYS better.
  • I'm here... working a full day today and tomorrow.  I'm supposed to have Friday off, but I doubt that will happen.  Then I work next week Monday through Wednesday, and then Thursday and Friday are supposed to be vacation days, but I get the feeling I'll be in the office then too.  Looks like I will have very few distractions on the knot :(

    I want a vacation!

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

That's kind of what I was thinking too!  :D  I sprinkled some with chopped Andes mints and then piped some with white chocolate.  Believe it or not, last night I made peppermint bark, the truffles, and magic bars and I never snuck a taste of anything!  I think I'll have to taste a truffle though because one fell apart, so I mean, I might as well eat it right?

  • Dani, I think you should eat it. You have to make sure it isn't poisoned or anything :P
  • I'm here..working a full day today, and a half a day tommorow.  Finally got Christmas shopping done so I've got lots of wrapping to do.
  • Absolutely you should eat it, Dani. Quality control and all that.
