Thank You Card Question

So I have lurked, posted etc..but now that it's time I am confused on something.... We had a DW wedding and only received a few gift's..... Do I send Thank You's to everyone? I don't want to come off like I am pointing out that they did not give one, but still want to acknowledge their presence.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Thank You Card Question

  • You should send one to those who came.  You can say how nice it was to see them, what a great time you had with them, etc. without mentioning a gift.
  • I am having a DW and I plan on sending thank yous to everyone who attends even if they don't give us a gift.  I think it is important for them to know that you appreciate them taking the time to be there for you and your now husband.

We only sent thank you notes to people who gave gifts.  We thanked everyone else in person at the actual wedding.  I felt like sending thank you notes to people who didn't give a gift would just point out the fact that they didn't give anything.

I should add, we didn't have a destination wedding though.

See this is what I do not want them to think. We made sure to thank everyone in person to.

  • I'm sure as long as you acknowledged everyone that did make it and told them how much you appreciated their presence on the day of, you don't have to write thank you notes to them all.

  • I just mailed off our Thank You cards....we had a DW and we sent cards to everyone who came.  We thanked them at the wedding, but wanted to thank them again.  Let them know how much we appreciated them traveling and taking time out of their lives.  I wrote a thank you in the card if we did get a gift from them.
  • It's kind of a grey area.  I've been posting here for 2 years and this question comes up from time to time and it's always kind of split down the middle.  Some people do it and some don't.

  • I guess it depends.  I send thank yous to people after they host a dinner party to thank them for a wonderful time because I think that is the right thing to do.  So I am going to send thank yous to anyone who comes to the wedding, regardless of whether or not they send a gift.  I mean, it costs you another $0.44 and 2 minutes of your time to jot something down about how you appreciated them being there.  I wouldn't be hurt about not receiving a thank you for my presence, but I would be really touched to get one. The cost/benefit comes out in favor of a thank you, IMHO

  • For a regular wedding:  no I wouldn't.

For a destination wedding where people traveled someplace they woudln't ordinarily go to attend your wedding:  yes, I would.  In this case, i feel like their choosing to use vacation time and spend the money on a trip to attend your wedding was sort of their present to you.  So I'd send them a card to thank them for making the trip.  As a guest, I think I'd appreciate that.  Especially if you include a cute photo of you guys on the beach.  I LOVE getting thank you cards with photos of the bride and groom!
  • I agree with noodle. For a regular wedding, not necessary. But for a destination wedding, yes, I would send a thank you to everyone since they all went above and beyond just to get there, even if they didn't give a physical gift.
