Happy Mardi Gras!

24

Re: Happy Mardi Gras!

  • Good Morning! Our taxes were pretty average this year. It was kind of sad to see the refund deplete once my income was added. Stupid marriage penalty.

Lucas made it home at 4:45pm yesterday and I was so confused. He's lucky to make it home before 6 most nights. Then I remembered the holiday.

  • Good morning!  I had yesterday off and my mom and I went to the outlet stores to go shopping.  It was nice to spend the day with her.

FI and I are going to Charlotte this upcoming weekend to visit friends, but I've been watching the weather and it looks like it is going to be warm on Thurs and Fri before we get there, and then the temp is supposed to drop.  I really hope the weather decides to stay warm for us while we are there.

  • Adamar we did find a condo that will work.  We applied for it on Friday, they said we should hear back by Wednesday this week.  I think they'd have taken J as collateral with all the questions and stuff they ask for.  It was crazy.  If that works out we'll be moving March 24 (is that your birthday, why do I feel like that's your birthday?)  It's somebody's birthday up in here.  Anyhow, it's the same size as where we live now so we'll make it work.  It's for one year and then we're buying a house, it's exactly what we need at the price we need to make that happen.

    So I'm pretty darn excited.
  • Morning ladies!  Half day of work for me and then Florida :)  Fezz is having a busy weekend!

My stomach feels weird today and, although I often have a slightly upset stomach, each time lately I've been freaking out that I'm getting whatever that awful stomach virus is that's going around.  Fingers crossed it's just my usual vague queasiness, I want to go to Florida tonight damnit!!

My boss just got promoted and now that girl I can't STAND who also can't stand ME I think is going for her position.  If she gets it, it will honestly be really hard not to put in my notice that day.  I don't think I can stand to work for someone who has tried to get multiple people in the office (including myself) fired/in trouble.

  • Oh TR that's awful.  I hope the right people can see through the BS and don't hire someone to manage people that is just out to get people.

[QUOTE]Beach -- We were talking about it last night. If he goes through it all again and we still owe the amount projected, we may hire someone. Even if we have to pay them $500, it will be worth it if they can save us a couple grand.

<div>It was looking like we were going to owe almost $2,000 to state and I almost went to a tax professional, but it was going to be $450 :-/  I immediately came home and re-did them all the way through and it looked better.  We'll come out about even between the THREE states we have to file with and we owe about $800 to Federal.  Which sucks, but I think it's correct because H filled out his W4 incorrectly (well, not incorrectly because he put 1's where he thought he should) and was having barely any taxes taken out.  I'm having my FIL take a look at them this week just to make sure I didn't screw anything up.</div><div>

  • Morning!

Stacks I hope everything works out with the condo!

Bay I can only imagine the funny stories you must have from lent every year.

<div>I really hope so too.  But I've talked to some more veteran people in the office (who have all said they'd quit if she got the position) and they said she's really good at being two-faced and only letting management see the good side.</div>

  • I always do my taxes online with H&R Block. It is pretty easy to use for me. My taxes are pretty simple though.

  • Cfas what ever happened with your job? Was there any resolution?

TR I hope things don't play out the way they look like they might.

  • Cfas - I took a real close look at the W4 worksheet for married couples and apparently we should be claiming 0 AND having extra taken out of our paychecks every time.  And we don't even make that much :-/

Adamar - Unfortunately, no :(  We're just heading down the east coast to Stuart.

    Heading into work.

  • Bay -- maybe that person's email address got hacked?  It doesn't sound real (or at least I hope it's not).
  • TR, fingers crossed that the office twatwaffle doesn't get promoted. Stacks, yay! for the condo! Cfas, sorry about owing money for taxes. We came out really well this year, but it might not be so good next. They are talking about at least 8 furlough days next school year, up from 4 this year. That is over half of a net paycheck that I'll be cut next year.
  • Ugh, TR.  Good luck, I hope she doesn't get it :(

Everyone in my office has started up the contraception debate again.  Not really debate, because everyone in here except for me agrees.  I'm going to hide in my office for the rest of the day.

  • Good Morning, today is my Monday and my wednesday.  Awesome.  I have a 3 day work week as yesterday was Family day and it was a stat holiday and I am taking off Friday for ladies day at our local ski hill.  It's going to be awesome!

  • Yay on the new digs Stacks! :)

  •  Good morning! I've got a beer in my hand and I'm just trying to decide whether I should wear the pink wig or the giant roach costume because IT'S MARDI GRAS!!!  I'm lurking around TK this morning, but around 11 I am supposed to go catch the last of the parades and eat fattening foods until Lent starts. =)

TR, I hope that the girl doesn't get the job.  Maybe you could try gunning for it?

Cfas, that SUCKS about your taxes. I feel your pain. This was my first year filing jointly and it cut down on my refund significantly (but it actually did end up saving H from owing).  I used H&R Block's website and it was a piece of cake.

  • Morning ladies! This week has been a whacky week for me, working half days at work to take care of mom while she recovers from her double mastectomy is throwing my brain off (thought it was Monday again this morning...)

And am really trying hard to not give into making fastnachts today in celebration of Mardi Gras. They'd totally kill my diet, but they'd be so worth it....

  • I'm getting a serious music festival itch.  I don't think we'll get to another one until November though.

  • JW, H is half-Polish and in Poland today is Paczki Day (filled jelly donuts).  He doesn't eat jelly donuts (freak), but my friends and I love them so I bought some for dessert tonight.  I figure the diet can start again tomorrow.

  • Morning! I had a three day weekend and it was glorious. I did absolutely nothing social, and didn't put on makeup, real pants, or a bra all weekend. It was so awesome.

This week at work I have to move offices though, so I'm not excited about that. I hate moving.
  • Haha Bay I guess I'm a freak too, i hate jelly doughnuts and don't think they should exist.

  • Beach, I never eat them during the year, but when the paczki come out right before Lent I love me some.  They're different from the crappy ones that Dunkin Donuts puts out.

  • Yeah, I'm kind of thinking today is going to end up being a "fvck you diet" day. I never eat doughnuts, but Paczki & Fastnachts are the rare exceptions I make. Well, and Belltown Orchards cider doughnuts.

Okay, I need to seriously stop making myself daydream about doughnuts...

<div>You've just described my look at least 6 days a week.  I think I've had a combination of makeup, bra and real pants on a total of 4 times since I've gotten here a month ago.</div>

I love those articles in women's magazines that are all "Don't wear pjs or yoga pants around your husband at home, he'll think you don't care enough about your appearance."  My H comes home from work, changes out of his uniform, and puts on PJ pants.  Saves on laundry.  I asked him once if he thought my wearing yoga pants when I get home from work was evident of my not caring about how I look in front of him.  He gave me a look like I was crazy and said, "I think you look comfortable.  Wear what you want."  The magazines lie.
