Re: Cute ways to ask.

  • My sister-in-law asked by wrapping jewlery cases with a note inside that said will you be a bridesmaid. It was cute. I asked mine by putting the earrings I knew I wanted them to wear in tiny chinese boxes and the first tabs said will you be and the inside tabs said my bridesmaid? The girls liked that :)
  • The DIY board has a new thread with a bunch of ideas :)
  • First of all, since your wedding isn't until Sept. 2012, I'd wait until after Christmas to ask anyone.  Why?  Scroll down this board and read the countless posts from brides who asked as far out as you are and now want to know how to kick someone out.  Then go over to the moms and maids board and read more of the same.

And yes, they were all bffs since nursery school, they're cousins, they KNEW that asking was the right thing to do.....until it wasn't.  Then, after Christmas....

Just ask them.  In the coming months, the marketers that drive the wedding industry are going to do their best to convince you that EVERYTHING about your wedding has to be a production or your wedding won't be special, unique, memorable, creative, or clever.  Don't get sucked into it.

Just ask your WP.  Call them up.  Go out for coffee.  Drive to their front door and ask.  Will your friends really be more excited to be asked if they get a cookie shaped like a bridesmaid dress than they will if you ask them?

Asking them WILL be memorable without some knick-knack, simply because you're asking them to stand next to you on what is, to that point in your life, the most important day of your life.

The honor is in BEING asked, not in how you're asked.

"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

  • Wait for sure. My sister made a cake that said "will you be my bridesmaids" on it and asked us that way. it was such a cute way to do it!
  • My wedding is September 2012 also! I asked all my girls already. I had cards made for the girls, FG, and RB! I used zazzle.com but I'm sure there are lots of sites! Have fun!
  • Yes, do wait since your wedding is so far away.

But I suggest just asking them in person or taking them out for lunch or coffee. Why spend a bunch a money on it and make a huge deal over it? I just don't get it.
  • I sent flowers to my girls.  The card read:
    "Dear ___,
Will you be my bridesmaid (or MOH)?

    Love,
    The future Dr. Jackie _____"

  • I sent mine heart felt letters, with a picture of us together.  I feel I could express myself better in letter form.
  • My sisters live about 90 miles from us and they knew I wanted them to be in our wedding the second we got engaged, but for our local friends, we went to the beach where we're getting married and picked up and cleaned shells, and we gave them to the people that we asked.

I also agree WAIT.  The bridesmaids in my case are my 2 sisters and one of my bffs, but the groomsmen have been a pain in the ass.  One of them actually did back out, but FI was wanting him to (didn't say anything to him or anyone else though).  We're not having tuxes, and I wish we'd waited until like 5 months out to ask.
