Re: Masters and Grad students!

  • I am getting my Masters in Engineering. We have been planning our wedding since I finished my Bachelor's degree in December 2010, so we had a lot planned and booked before I started my Master's this passed January. Having so much done before I started my Master's and having a long time to plan and get things done helps me be able to focus on school. Wanting to do wedding stuff instead of school can be distracting, but you can use the wedding stuff as a kind of reward for getting school work done. Like do a few hours of reading, homework, or paper writing, then take a half hour to browse The Knot or look at a bridal magazine.

  • While I graduated from law school before getting engaged, I assure you that I knew plenty of law students who were perfectly capable of planning a wedding while in school.  I also have far more work now in a demanding full-time job than I ever did in school, and am having no problems planning my wedding.  You'll be fine as long as you keep focused and don't freak out.  Wedding planning is actually not that much work unless you make it more work than it needs to be, if that makes sense.
  • I'm newly engaged and planning a wedding while working full-time and going to grad school full-time. Our date is September 20, 2014 but I'll be graduating in May 2014.
I think we definitely have the benefit of a 2 year engagement, but we're going to be so busy, I'm sure it will just fly by!

  • I'm getting a Masters in Teaching and Teacher Education. I student teach 8 am to 12 pm, have class from 1pm to 3:30 pm, and work part time along with doing an internship. I'm planning away and managing fine... using my one day off a week for most wedding stuff! I'm all about setting very specific chunks of time aside for things like studying, working on my thesis/Classroom Inquiry Project, and wedding planning. You can do it! :)
  • I'm currently in medical school.  We got engaged just shy of half way through my second year so that we would have as much time to plan as possibly before I started third year this past July.  Third year is the most time intensive year, so we wanted to avoid having to do any major planning during the year.  We'll be getting married during my fourth year, which can be a bit more laidback than third year.  It's definitely do-able.  Try to get your fiance involved.  Not only has it made the experience that much more fun for me (I was not one of those girls who dreamed of her wedding day), but it's brought us even closer together and forced us to really refine our compromising skills.

  • I did the majority of my wedding planning while getting my masters and teaching. It takes a lot of help from family and friends and good time managment. You can do it though!

  • I am working on my Master's of Nursing to become a Family Practice Nurse Practitioner.  My DH asked me to marry him near the end of my first semester, and we got married on summer break between the first and second year.  It was doable, but only because my DH was a big help, since he new with school as well as holding down a part-time job I could not be doing all the wedding stuff.  He designed the invitations, was good about talking to venues, and more.

  • I am working on my Masters in Speech Language Pathology, and we will be getting married in the middle of my 4th semester (of 6 semesters). School goes through the summer as well in the program I am enrolled in, so getting married in the summer was not going to be an option that would alleviate any of the stress of planning a wedding. So far, I haven't found it very stressful. As long as I can make a decision and stick to it, I think we'll be fine (I don't have trouble with buyer's remorse normally). I think as long as you set a little time aside to plan that doesn't interfere with your school work, you'll be fine. I've been doing my school work first and planning when I have time (and am not working) afterward.

I totally agree with this. The actual process of planning the wedding hasn't been that stressful yet. Figuring out where we are going to live and work after I graduate is the big thing on my mind right now.

  • I am working on my masters in public Administration and working, I have been planning my wedding a little under a year. I do believe it possible to plan a wedding and go for ur degree without losing ur mind and focus, because I am doing it. All you have to do is come up with a vision of how you picture your wedding day ; recruit family members, friends anyone close to you to help you plan your wedding tell them this vision and they will take some of the stress. You can set a specific time that you focus on just wedding planning each week and go from there. Congrats hope my advice helped
  • I'm a second year graduate student getting my Master's of Science in Social Work. We will be getting married about a week and a half after I graduiate. Grad school alone is intense and planning a wedding isn't easy but it also is kind of a good way to take a mental break from school. It's doable! I'm just trying to get as much done as I can early. I'm also going to be utilizing winter break and spring break to do some of the major stuff. I'm also doing an internship so I'm hoping to end that by early April to give me most of May to do last minute wedding stuff.
