Clothing Vents

I have a terrible time finding dress pants!  I've put on some weight over the past year or so, and I need to go shopping.  This morning I got out some of my winter friendly dress pants and either they've morphed into scuba pants, or I've gained more than I cared to admit.  This is my problem, I'm tall, and it's all legs.  I have a very short torso and a 38" inseam.  I carry a lot of my weight in my short torso and never gain in my legs.  Picture an egg on toothpicks.  Finding the length I need is hard enough, but when I buy to fit my waist I end up looking like MC Hammer.  If I try to fit the my legs I end up with the worlds biggest muffin top. I have to get myself back on track of losing weight.  In the mean time I can't come to work in a bathrobe, so I'm going to have to buy pants and have them altered...that pisses me off.

What struggles do you have with shopping?

Re: Clothing Vents

  • I bought pants Saturday at the Gap - their new 'curvy' fit.  Love them, and I'm kind of hard to fit.  Often if they fit in the legs & butt, the waistband is ridiculous.  I feel your pain - pants shopping isn't fun.

  • Try sparkpeople.  I lost 40 pounds doing that.  I started September 2009 and stopped in March of this year and have been in maintain made since then.  It really helped me.

As far as shopping struggles...  My chest, and waist are one size and my hips and butt are a few sizes larger so finding fitted dresses for work is a pain because I always have to buy the size to fit my hips and then have them altered.  I hate it.

  • I wear dresses because of how ill-fitting pants are. Especially dress pants. I feel for ya. I have a black pair and a brown pair, and I rarely wear them.

My biggest struggle is finding tops that fit. If something fits in the waist, it's busting at the chest. I always have to buy up a size and have it altered in the waist for a nice fit. It SUCKS.
  • Bra's are my problem. First of all every store says I'm a different size and then apparently my band and cup size are not "normal" so if I find a style that fits - its my only option and its friggin expensive. And they're usually ugly granny bras too.

  • I hate shopping for work clothes. I shop the junior's section because that's all that fits, but it's next to impossible to find decent stuff. Anything that's not god-awful ugly and supposedly "trendy" is club-ish (like 1 shoulder or see through) and I can't wear it to work.

It's also hard to find pants that don't to that weird gap thing in the back.
  • I also hate pants.. Im short, and pants are ALWAYS too long, and when I find a pair "short" and they are the right length, they are always too baggy elsewhere!
  • Everything makes me look pregnant, but I don't think that's the clothing's fault, more my excessive eating.

I should blame this, but I'm happier blaming the clothing industry.

  • I'm really picky about pants.  I'm short, but fit my size okay everywhere except the crotch.  It don't want it low and I don't want a crease there.  I'm super picky about that.  And I really hate that I can't find normal leg jeans anymore.  I'm a skinny girl, but I'm not wearing skinny jeans.  Try again, Gap.

Yeah, I know I do it, but I have no will power. I need FI to keep me on track.

I'll jump on the bra-angry bandwagon.

I'm not a heavy person but my boobs are large (34DD).  I don't know what I was thinking yesterday but I took my fiance with me yesterday to use a gift card I have to Victoria's Secret.  I honestly need a new bra, and wanted to get some fun panties, but he made the experience not all that fun for me.  He wanted me to pick out a "fun" lingerie piece to wear on our honeymoon, and I kept telling him that none of them would fit me.  I even humored him and we looked through a bunch of them.  The biggest any of them got was a 36C.  Lame.

Plus there aren't many fun bras in my size, anyway.  Most of them are either tan (which are fine, I like tan bras... but not when I'm shopping for something FUN) and the ones that ARE colored are always the fucking ugliest bras I've ever seen.  What the hell?

  • Ugh, I'll get on board with hating pants shopping, especially jeans (Which I love to wear, hate to buy).

I have a [proportionally] small waist, wide hips and then need for a 33" inseam to contend with (32" looks too short, 34" drags ... I don't even know how 1 stupid inch can make such a huge difference, and yet, here we are). It sucks. I'm also 26, which makes things even harder with my build, because everything in Juniors looks way too young on me and everything in Misses tends to look like "Mom Jeans" on me.

On the rare occasion I do find jeans that I don't "hate myself" in, I will seriously stock pile, buying 3 or 4 pairs, even if they're all the same wash, just so I can avoid jean shopping again for a year or 2.

  • I hate shopping for pants. Hate. I am short with big thighs. Screw you jean industry.

  • I just hate shopping for any clothing at all.
  • Ditto AATB on fun bras.  I'm a 38DD and it's impossible to find cute stuff.  On top of it, I like to wear matching sets, so I'm usually SOL.

Sometimes Target had cute larger bras, but you have to try every single one on because sometimes they're sewn oddly or have no support.  I've gotten a few cute sets there, though.

I have the same problem, I'm a 38DD and I shopped at Target for my bras for a long time.  Every once in awhile I'll go there and pick up one or two, but I've found a new place to get them.  A store called Avenue, they are online too if you don't have one in your area.  They have cute bras that don't look like granny bras.  Not terribly expensive, and good quality.  (sorry AATB, it's a plus size store so I think the smallest they carry are 38)

  • I'm at a height where all regular size pants are too long and all "short" or petitie pants are too short.  Its insanity inducing.  Ive started just buying the longer ones and iron-hemming them up with double sided tape.

REALLY frustating to me:   I have absolutely no torso and have a tiny frame with a full chest so finding shirts that are the right size is pretty much impossibe.  Theyre too long and too flowy.  If they fit everywhere else, theyre too tight in the bust.

I vote for the futuristic silver unitard uniform we'll all end up in eventually now.

"Whatever East. You're just mad I RSVP'd "lame" to your pre-wedding sleepover."
  • I a bit more ok with pants shopping now but tops will always be an issue.  Like the other well endowed ladies I need to size up to fit the girls.  Though I never get my shirts altered, so I just like frumpy.

And don't even get me started on bras.  I was so excied to find a really cute/sexy/pretty bra on my last shopping trip that I bought 2 bras instead of the one planned (the planned was a boring nude colour).  That was more money than I was looking to spend.

I never thought of going to The Avenue, actually.  We do have them and I'll check it out. Thanks, D Mills!

ETA: Just went to the website, and I love the bras!  I never thought to shop there because I didn't think anything would really fit, but this is great.
  • Bras and shoes. My band size and cup size are an odd match, and I have to hunt for bras. Those ladies with the tape measures always doubt me, until they do the measurement.

The shoe problem is because a) the dog is a gnawer if he can get into the bedroom b) occasionally I have a flareup of a "bunionette" on the outside of my foot and c) I love heels, but they don't love my feet unless they're stocky/sturdy.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • Oh, I do get pissy about shoes, too, because of my foot shape. I have Fred Flinstone feet: perfect rectangles with little ball-like toes. I adore the look of pointed toe and peep toe shoes, but they just do not work on my feet.

Do you have any idea how frustrating it was to find a white, round [closed] toed satin pump for my wedding? It took weeks of searching and that was even with Google! Yell

  • I usually end up getting my bras at Dillards but finding a sports bra had been just as bad - however athleta (division of gap/old navy) has some good ones!

  • I have the same pants issue as you, LesPaul.  If they fit my butt and thighs, they're too big in the waistband.  I have to get most of my pants altered.  I do like my bangin' ass though so I guess that's the trade off.

Yay, I like a lot of their shirts too.  They are made for girls with boobs.  <div>At least once every month or two they have a bra sale too.  I always wait until they are buy one get one half off. </div>

    *shakes fists* I cannot win!

It's very frustrating :( I've talked to girls who are even smaller than me, but their boobs are even bigger.  What the freaking hell are we supposed to do?
    panther
  • No, they don't even have 38DD.  THe smallest I can find is 40DD, which I've tried before when I really wanted a set and it was too big :(.
  • I just looked at their site, and the sizes they have in the drop down don't even match what they have listed in the details.  That's weird, they don't have 38 listed, but I just went to the bathroom and checked mine and it's a 38.  Maybe they have more sizes in stores?? I'll be over that way tonight or tomorrow, now I'm going ot have to go in and investigate.

  • Why is it that apparently it's so awesome to have huge tits in Hollywood, or in media images, and yet when you actually have them, you can't find anything to wear that makes you feel sexy?
    panther
  • Agreed, it's so frustrating.  I don't think I've ever seen a DD in VS stores, you can order them but they are more expensive.  Or that's how it used to be, I grew out of VS bras in the 9th grade :(
