[QUOTE]In Response to Re: 3-5 Years? : :(  That sucks. Most of what I've read has said that the housing prices should remain reasonable for at least the next three years. Fingers crossed

Thanks!! My parents are getting ready to move to retirement in about three years so my really secret hope is we can buy their house from them. I would never want them not to be able to make the money they deserve off of it, but they have mentioned to me they would love to do a private sale if it all worked out. I am just hoping the market doesn't rebound too much for greedy, personal reasons.
  • I think making a plan is a great idea, and even if you end up making different choices, at least you are better prepared for what will come.
  • I try to make plans but things like to destroy them for me too. I just try to tell myself "the money comes and the money goes" but does it have to take such hits? Last month we were finally doing really well, then Dh's car broke and there went the cushion we had made.
We are finally 2 payments away from having Dh's credit card fully paid off. I take care of most of our bills so he didn't realize it was that close to disappearing and did a happy dance when I told him. It was created when his car broke and he needed a rental for a week. Sad that one week of something unexpected resulting in nearly 3 years of payments.
The money never seems to go anywhere fun either. In 2008-09 we probably spent close to $3,000 in vet bills, $3000 in car repairs (and stupid shiit like when his car was towed in the snow storm) and nothing fun at all.
Ironically we are saving a ton of money by owning a house though. Even if you include all of the utilies, taxes, etc we are paying about $400 less per month than renting our 2 bedroom.
