wording on program for "escort of the bride"?

Hey girls...  My fiance and I are having a wedding outside of mass ceremony... I'm trying to prepare the programs and I'm wondering how and where to put who will be escorting me down the aisle. My father is deceased and I've chosen to have someone very close to me escort me down...should I put this in the program? Is it appropriate? Do I put it under the "mother of the bride" section?

Thanks so much for your help!

Re: wording on program for "escort of the bride"?

  • Hmmm....I would say something like John Smith, Uncle (or friend, brother, cousin, whatever) of the bride as described in the family section, but, depending on your program, might say something like to indicate John Smith will be in the processional. Like if you are doing 3 columns with your main info in the middle, you could have the song choice on one side and John Smith on the other, if that makes sense. As a guest, I would want to know who the person walking you was.

I've usually only seen mention of the bride's escort in the newspaper.  I have two suggestions:

    1) If you are having a lenghty-ish program (I say this because mine was 4x9 front and back), are you including any section on... I don't even know what to call it... fun facts?  At a wedding I went to back in 2007, there was a section describing the bride's old/new/borrowed/blue things, with a little explanation of each.  Maybe you could put it there?

    2) (this one is probably better)  Are you having an "In Memoriam" section?  You could say something like, "In loving memory of Bride's Father.  [Nice things about how awesome he was].  Since he cannot be here, the bride is escorted by ___________ in his stead."

You could also include #2 in the "Special Thanks" part of your program.

    OR

    3) Just include him as WP.  Have a section for "Escorting the bride" right before you list BM/GM.

ETA: Apparently I had three suggestions.

I think I would go with prof's "escorting the bride.  The others just sound a bit awkward to me.

    Thanks!! I will probably go with #3, that's where I was leaning but then I was second guessing myself. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-smile.gif" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />
