I didn't have one, but I also didn't have any set-up work to be done the day of the wedding. I handed out notes sheets to all the major players with a timeline, map, directions, and a list of anything that they had agreed to take care of. Plus, I had a fantastic friend who is self-proclaimed "made to be a PA." I knew I could count her.
If you aren't terribly organized, have extra set-up the day-of, or your family needs a little wrangling, then I would suggest getting one.
We are having one, primarily because we can't be in the PEC to decorate until 10:00am and we have a lot of stuff to set up, alcohol to bring in, etc. etc. and I didn't want family and friends to have to be responsible for all of that.

Now that we are no longer having a private ceremony, I am insisting that we have a DOC, simply because the people I was going to rely on to do set-up and such, will now be at the wedding.
And honestly, I'm now realizing that it's so much more than that too. We had our first meeting with a potential DOC last night, and I realized exactly how much she could do for us. My stress level about all things wedding-related dropped significantly after talking with her, and realizing that I won't have to be the one making sure everything is happening just the way it should.
We have two more consultations set up with DOC vendors, and I'm excited to make a decision!
I kept thinking all along that I could do it all myself. But about 60 days before the wedding I realized that I needed hlep setting up the reception and tearing down. I also realized that I wanted someone else to be the go to person so I could relax more.
Stephanie was awesome. She took control of the things that needed to get done. When issues came up she took care of them and I never even knew what was going on.
I'm planning to get one. My MOH is my oldest friend who I only get to see once every couple years, so I want to spend quality time with her without giving her any obligations besides being by my side. My other BM is a great friend, but I don't trust her to care enough to make sure things are the way I want them, and the other BM is 12. In the end, I want someone who I can hold responsible who I don't have to tiptoe around to preserve the relationship. That, and we're probably going to have 2 set-ups to do, and that's way too much for any one person who isn't being paid to be responsible for.
Re: DOC.. yes or no
