DJ question

So I've just started my DJ search, and the few people that I've called charge for the equipment in a range of $50 - $300 (flat fee) on top of the hourly charge.  Did anyone else's DJ charge like this too?

Um nope!  My DJ charges a fee that includes everything... Melody and Memories.  I can't say enough about her, she's awesome!

I didn't receive any quotes like that...mine were all just a flat rate per hour all inclusive.  Some had options where you could add on lighting equipment and stuff, but not the actual sound equipment.

I've never heard of that.  But my DJ just had a flat fee period for unlimited time which included everything.

Im using Glenn Roush and he just charges a flat fee for his services and the equipment is included.

Thanks for all the quick responses.  I thought that pricing sounded fishy!

We used Melody and Memories and she kind of did charge us for doing our ceremony, which was at a different location than the reception (a block away) so they needed to bring a smaller version of their equipment to hook up, and she came to the reception empty handed.  I think it was an extra $100.

Most DJs that I've worked with charge the flat rate for their time and that includes the sound equipment.  They often rent lighting equipment on the side and some other A/V stuff so this definitely sounds fishy.

Who did you use? I looked on the vendor sticky but didn't see your vendors.

Valerie, my DJ primarily specializes in international music  in addition to top 40 music, so he may not be what you are looking for.. but he did great job and is very popular in Dallas.

His name Keyvan Safa. His regular rate is around $800.

Mine included basic dance floor lighting in his fee.   I meant the ones that offer pinspotting and uplighting and other types of lighting as well usually charge extra.

Our DJ (Complete Music)just has a flat fee of $700 for 4 hours, $125 per additional hour (which I'm sure can be negotiated if you need more time) with a $200 deposit. No additional charges for equipment, they provide/set up/tear down.

I never encountered any DJs with prices like that. I have recommended our DJ to all of my friends and family for their weddings and have heard only positive things... I even got a thank you gift from my last friend that used him! He was very budget family and had all inclusive pricing as well.

Probably can't go wrong with Melodies and Memories either as I have read a ton of great reviews on her, I just haven't personally seen her in action yet.
