Re: It's afternoon, so we're going to stop posting in the AM thread

  • I miss living by my parents.  My mother used to drop by with food for H and me and help babysit the dog (including picking up the dog from my house while I was at work).  MIL isn't quite as helpful.

Of course, my mother drives me nuts sometimes.  This last week, she knew I was supposed to be on voice rest, but she just used that as an excuse to say things to me when she knew I couldn't respond.  Grr.

  • I just don't tell them, Spa.  Actually, I remembered looking for the question when we redid our insurance last November and I didn't see it, so maybe I'm being more honest than I thought.

  • I don't think our insurance asks about having any pets.  I dont' remember the question anywhere.

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say this (the crap part.) I like it, haha.

  • Ok, I'm continuing to work on plans for RD.  and I'm stuck.  we are not inviting children to the wedding, however several friends involved in the ceremony and immediate family members have young kids (5 years and younger).  I know it is not kosher to invite guest to the RD if they are not invited to the wedding.  Would it be nice to invite the children to the RD so the parents don't have to arrange for childcare 2 days in a row?

  • Kim, I feel like it's totally different with children. I think it's fine to allow them to come to the RD and not the wedding. Parents probably will appreciate not having to find childcare 2 nights in a row. Some might choose to leave their kids home anyway, but I think it's nice to give them a choice.

  • I think it makes it seem like their kids are good enough for one event, but not the other.  But I'm not the biggest kid fan so take that with a grain of salt.

Thanks! thats what I was thinking, and that FI's niece and nephews might feel semi-included...I just wanted some opinions other than my mother's!

I'm not a big kid fan either (reason why there are no kids at the wedding) but FSIL often struggles to find childcare and I'm probably lucky she's got something lined up for the wedding.  Since we're just doing a relatively informal BBQ with lawn games for RD I don't think her out of control children will bother me (and others) as much

I feel like most people understand that a wedding is more formal than a rehearsal dinner and it makes sense not to have kids at the wedding. Don't get me wrong, I know there are people who get offended that they can't bring their kids, but I think a lot of people would be okay with being able to bring them to the RD but not the wedding. Maybe that's just me though.

  • I think it's nice to let them bring the kids to the RD, especially since, as you said, it's a more casual event.

Random question. I have to speak at a conference next week, it's internal, but I was thinking of wearing this dress:

I was thinking of getting these shoes:

Would they look really stupid? I think it could be really cute.

The coral is NOT that insanely bright!
  • Snippy, I don't know how I feel about the green bow with the coral dress. I think if the shoes didn't have it, they would look better. Of course, it might be way less noticable in person than it is looking at it online in a big picture.
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • I love them both.  And I love the coral with the green (:

I think it looks really polished but fun at the same time.
  • OMG I LOVE THOSE SHOES
  • I agree on the green bow.  Very cute dress!

  • I was thinking that the green would work because it would be pretty small. Plus, green and coral go together, right? haha

I just don't want to get a pair of beige shoes because they would then match my leg color exactly.
  • I probably wouldn't pair those together.  I don't think that green bow goes very well with the coral color.

Is the bow by any chance removeable?  The shoes without it would look cute with the dress.

Right?? They are kind of sexy but adorable at the same time.

Exactly! It looks like the heel would be comfortable all day too, without looking clunky like some heels do. Adorable/sexy all around.
  • I really like pairing colors that don't traditionally "go" together, such as coral and green.  I think it looks great.  Wearing coral with a pair of beige shoes, while nice, isn't as interesting.  And this from a girl who owns and wears a LOT of beige shoes.  I almost always throw something unexpected into an outfit.

    Team Coral and Green!
  • I'm not really very adventurous with fashion. I wear what goes together. I just don't have the creative mind to be able to put together something unexpected but fabulous.
    imageWedding Countdown Ticker
  • It would probably make more sense if you could see the actual color of the dress. Hold please.
  • FWIW, I'm totally team coral and green already. It's not that much green, just a pop!

I'm not always bold and daring when it comes to colors but I wish I were. Getting to wear jeans all the time at work now has made me lazy. Probably the best outfit I've put together in a while involving lots of cool color combos was for my first shower. I love that outfit.
  • I need to figure out what to wear for my engagement pictures next week. There's rain in the forecast so far, but hopefully that will change, because I really want them to be outside. My photographer does take incredible rain pictures though. So maybe it could be nice out and then rain a little at the end?

Isn't the point of beige shoes to match your skin tone?  Maybe not exactly exactly, but so that it gives a longer leg line to the eye.

ETA:  I'm interested to see the actual coral color, since it looks insanely bright in that picture.  I don't think that neon goes with the polka dots (which seem less brightly colored).
  • Maybe, but I don't like it. I already have a 35" inseam. That's a long enough leg for me.

  • Yeah, I forgot about your insanely long legs (I'm a short legged-long torso girl, so any help I can get, I take).

I really like that dress.  The shoes are cute, but just not my style.  I'm boring and would wear my nude pumps.

Okay, seeing the real color of the dress makes the whole thing make more sense.  I think the coral is muted enough that you should be ok with the green bow on the shoes.

Your thought process makes sense now :)
