So, we've been planning to get married at the coast in May of 2011 and now that my FSIL is married I was all ready to officially start my planning. Today I called the guy who owns the house where we want to hold the wedding to see about possibly renting it. I was hoping since we will be doing it before the high season really gets stared that we would have a little flexibility...no luck. We would have to commit to renting the house for at least a week and it would be Saturday-Saturday. So now I have to decide if I want to completely rethink my whole idea and go somewhere else, change the date to a Friday or if we can afford to rent it for 2 weeks one of which we wouldn't even be there for! Anyway....I'm just having a minor freak out....I knew this was a possibility but had basically refused to entertain it.
Disclaimer: I do not by any means think the homeowner is being unreasonable. In fact I think he is being very gracious by allowing us to even consider a wedding at his home and to be willing to reserve a week for us this far in advance.

I am sorry your plans might have to change, but think of it this way : At least you have a year and a half to figure it out.
Don't worry... everything will fall into place eventually.

what beach are you looking at? we looked at sooooo many houses so i may be able to help you out!
Oh, and we're looking at Holden Beach, Amanda.
we did look at holden (we actually looked at all the brunswick island except bald head b/c i wasn't paying fairy fees for all the guests)!
we decided on oak island.
you just have to ask the realty companies what house are most commonly used for events/weddings....they usually call them "event friendly"
also be careful b/c most owners also limit the number of guests. we are only have 60 guests and our house allows 100. also, usually the closer you gt to 100 they are going to make you rent a porta john and pay extra event fees. if you are also planning on having your rehearsal dinner there, do NOT tell them that b/c then they may want to charge you two event fees. we just got lucky and they waived our event fee for the rehearsal b/c it was less than 20 people and the house sleeps 24.
i don't remember what houses we looked at on holden. i do remember some at ocean isle and an event lot at sunset. mostly oak island and caswell, they have SEVERAL event friendly houses.
