Customary Flower Deposit

My potential florist is asking for a 30% non-refundable deposit.  Does this seem outrageous?  My flower budget is on the lower end, and we're getting a great deal to start, so I don't want to ruin anything. But, I also want to make sure we're not taken advantage of and everything is covered on our end.

My father did some digging and found that a 10% deposit is more customary, which can be refundable up to 14 days before delivery.  Perhaps this depends on the area where you live.

Any feedback is much appreciated!!

    Our florist required a $300 non-refundable deposit to hold the date regardless of the estimated cost for the entire order.  Then the full balance was due 3 weeks prior to the event.  Our total budget was only around $800, so the deposit was definitely over 30%. 

    The deposit your florist is asking for doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

    My florist needed $100 for any size order.  My total ended up only being $295 so she said I could do $50 if I wanted but I just paid in full since it was such a small amount.  So would have been 30%, ended up being 17%.

    30% is fair, non-refundable is pretty normal too.

    Mine was $50 (I think that was her magic number) and full balance was due two weeks before.  Our floral budget was $1200.

    Mine was a $300 deposit, regardless of your order. And she normally does minimum $1000 order. But I asked her if I could greatly reduce my estimate, which ended up being just under $600, so I paid over 50%. The way I looked at it, though, is it's less for me to pay the month of my wedding, which is definitely a bonus!

    I only had to pay ten percent. I ended up paying more because like PP it is one less thing I will have to worry about a few weeks before the wedding. My remaining balance is due two weeks before.

    We paid 50% of the total, which is our florist's policy regardless of how big the order is.  I wasn't worried about it because, like PP said, it's less to pay later.  I went to 9 different consultations though and they ranged from a flat $50 to 50% and everywhere in between, all of which were non-refundable.

    My florist didn't require that I pay a deposit...but at another floral shop I went to, they wanted a $300 deposit (regardless of the budget cost).  Our flowers are going to cost about $500.

    in new york, florists here want half down and then 3 payments depending on the amount spend, they even let you work out a payment plan...... so yep believe it ...they want a deposit, their saving you the day so they dont book too many weddings that day...
