Feeling guilty about my honeymoon budget

FI and I have are major budget travelers. We just returned from a 10 day Disney trip that we were able to pull off for around $800 including food/hotel/park tickets/travel/misc.

We're doing a 2 week honeymoon (1 week cruise to Bermuda, 1 week in Disney) and our total including airfare is just shy of $4500. I've NEVER in my life spent this much on vacation, but I know it is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Someone please make me feel better about this!

Re: Feeling guilty about my honeymoon budget

  • If you can afford it and are not going into debt to pay for this trip there is absolutely nothing to feel guilty about.  We have taken some nice vacations, but spent double what our most expensive trip had ever been on our honeymoon, and dont regret it one bit.  It was worth every penny.

  • Oh no don't feel guilty! Like pp mentioned if you can afford it and aren't going into debt over it then go and enjoy i! Everyone's budgets are different and if yours is higher than you expected then go and enjoy your wonderful HM.

Traveling is a hobby for me and FI. We don't really spend a lot of money on other things, and we always search for the best deals and have gotten some pretty amazing deals on some pretty awesome vacations over the past few years. But for our HM we decided to splurge. We wanted to make it a once in a lifetime trip, and we have definitely felt a little guilty about it, but every time we look at pictures or reviews of the resort we'll be at we know it'll be worth every single penny and the memories will last us a lifetime.
  • Right, like the other ladies have said- if you can afford your trip and you're not going into debt over it, there's no reason for you to feel bad.  You and your husband will only get ONE honeymoon, so making it special and a once-in-a-lifetime experience is perfectly ok.  Have fun, it sounds great!

  • How did you do 10 days in Disney for 800$?  We just HMed there for 6 days for $2000.  We saved on the hotel big time, too.  Since we might go back in May any tips you can give as to how to do it for way cheap would be great.

  • DH and I are dropping a sick amount of $ for our 18 night trip to italy this coming september (not hm-just trip). i almost fell over when i saw the total BUT it's so worth it. sure a hm is once in a lifetime (or you hope to have to take only one LOL). the only time i'd have an issue with it is if it was putting me into debt. that's no way to start a marriage or life together.

    1) We drove instead of flying- $250 in gas
    2) Our motel was the Rodeway inn Maingate for 23/night- $250 after tax
    3) We have annual passes, so our cost per day in the parks was only $13= $260
    4) We bought groceries when we got down there, and emptied out our pantry before we left. DIdn't eat out AT ALL while we were there.

<div>Thanks for responding!  We will be driving, and having season passes, but as a rule I never stay at a Rodeway and I find it pretty impractical to leave the parks for meals.</div>

If it makes you feel any better, we will likely be spending nearly $7,000 on airline tix alone for our honeymoon, but we are probably going to Australia and NZ (and that includes the fees to upgrade) and we will be slightly older than the average newlyweds.
