inexpensive reception sites in st. paul?

hey everyone! i'm just starting this whole planning thing and am checking out different sites for a reception. no dinner, just cocktails and possibly apps. anyone have a good recommendation for a site within st. paul? i'm currently looking into the klub haus, sweeney's, and the happy gnome. did anyone on here have their reception at any of these, and if so, what did you think? thanks in advance!

Congrats!  You'll find the ladies here to be extremely helpful.  It might help us to know how many guests you plan on inviting and more a more specific price range.  Some things to keep in mind if you're on a strict budget is that getting married in the off season or on a non-Saturday will usually be cheaper.  Reducing your guest list is the easiest way to save money (less food, space, favors, invites, drinks, etc).

A few years ago, I went to a wedding at the chapel at St. Thomas and the reception was appetizers immediately following.  I don't know if they still do that, but if so, it's a beautiful venue right in St. Paul:)

We are doing a Friday night at Landmark Center.  You can bring your own caterer, so that saves tons of money.

oh right, forgot those details! we're looking at around 150 guests. i'd like to spend around $1000 on the reception itself. i think we will probably look at a friday to keep the cost down. thanks for your help ladies, i really appreciate the suggestions!

I went to a wedding reception at McGoverns.  They have an upstairs private room, not sure how much it fits though.  I think they have appetizer pricing for large groups on their webstie.

Does the $1000 include apps and drinks and the room rental or just the rental?  I'm not sure you'll find much in traditional venues that would be in that price range if you're including apps and drinks (even with no rental fee, that would be under $7 per guest).  You might want to consider some of the area parks.

We looked extensively at the Happy Gnome for our grooms dinner.  Beautiful venue but fairly expensive.  If I remember correctly room rental was free but drinks started at $6.00 a person. That means you would be over your budget very quickly.  Very cool venue though.  Too bad they ended up being booked.  Plus they said 100 people is really the max up there.
