Wedding Vows & Ceremony Discussions

What are the typical songs for a catholic wedding ceremony? Please help..

Hello,

I'm a German bride and our wedding ceremony will be also in Germany. My husband is from USA . That means the people on my site are all Germans and on his site all Americans.

Our German priest will be so nice to do the ceremony in both languages. Our problem is he know what the typical German weddings songs are but we also wanna sing some typical American songs. But we don't know anything about that.

My mom in law send us already a catholic hymmbook, but we dont know what are the right songs.

Is there somebody, they could help us?

Our priest traditional that means he just wanna sing church songs.

  • I don't know about specifically "American" songs, but songs I have commonly heard at Catholic weddings here in America are "The Prayer" and "Ave Maria." In Catholic weddings with communion, I have heard "One Bread, One Body" played often.
  • Ave Maria is typically a Catholic funeral song....but it's beautiful.

  • Here is a link to the lady who is playing harp at my wedding, she has all the songs nicely divided and you can hear little clips of them! HTH!

Just scroll down past the testimonials and you'll see it! HTH!

  • Are you getting married within a Catholic church?  Most churches have a musical director with the approved list for their specific church.  There's a Catholic board here on TheKnot, you might want to check over there for some advice as well.
