Nevada-Las Vegas

Your fav places?

Hello ladies!  I'm getting married in August and will be honeymooning in Las Vegas!  I'm really excited, I've never been and I am looking for suggestions on places to eat, where to stay, where to shop, and which shows to see.  Any suggestions of your favorite places will be appreciated!  Also, does anyone know anything about The Californian Hotel and Casino?  My FI found a deal they were offering, and we just weren't sure.  Thank you!

Not sure, because I've personally not stayed there, but maybe these Yelp reviews might be some help:

Oh my, where do I begin....
gondola ride at the venetian, the view from the stratosphere, the crazy ride atop the stratosphere, cirque shows (Mystere and O are amazing), the buffet at the wynn, the free live show at treasure island, madame tussaud, bellagio fountains, talking statues at caesar's, outlet malls, fremont st experience... if I think of anything else I'll post again. Get a good guide and check out vegas.com. GL!!

My favorite thing is the Bellagio fountains! I cried the first time I saw them. I love "O" at Bellagio.

I've stayed at MGM and Imperial Palace, and they were both fine. The West Wing rooms at MGM were nice, and a good couples/honeymoon feeling.

    Favorite places I've eaten:

Hash House A Go-Go at Imperial Palace
    Nobu at Hard Rock
Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood

Window (or real) shopping at the Venetian and Caesar's Forum Shops is my favorite.

Eiffel Tower at Paris is good place to have dinner and see the fountains of Bellagio from if you don't have a room at Paris, Ballys or Bellagio.

Also, check http://www.groupon.com/subscriptions/new?division_p=las-vegas while in Vegas, there are often pretty great groupon deals for things in Vegas.

N9NE Steakhouse at the Palms is one place I tend to eat every time I'm there; the surf n turf is excellent.

If you're a night club type, Ghost Bar and Moon at the Palms are good, as is Tryst at Wynn.

For shopping, my favorite two places are the forum shops at Caesars, the place is massive, and the Canal Shoppes at Venetian.  That's where you can get the gondola ride a PP mentioned.

I'm not big on the Cirque shows now that I've seen most of them but I love Jersey Boys.

Going to Freemont street downtown for a night is worth it; you get to see the light show, gamble in some of the 'classic' casinos, etc.

The California is downtown (Fremont Street). While I'm a downtown gal, I would never ever recommend that anybody stay there for their first trip. Visit, yes. Stay? No way. It should be the law that virgins have to stay on the Strip.

    www.cheapovegas.com

Go to that website. It links to all the hotels on the Strip. Sign up for their players clubs and they'll email you room deals.

If you wanted to stay somewhere nice downtown, check out the Golden Nugget - I agree with zitiqueen about other hotels downtown but the Nugget is fantastic!  http://goldennugget.com/home.asp

For some strange reason I always want to go to Maddame Taussand's is a lot of fun.
The grandola ride looks very romantic.

Planet Hollywood (restaurant) at Forum Shops at Ceasar's Palace is really good & fun memorabilia.

At The Orleans there's this buffet that the prices are very cheap and they have A lot of food & lot's of stations.

    Titanic Artifacts is really nice.

The Blue Men Group is a fun show.

Shopping at the Forum Shops :)

I second previous posters, if you are considering the Cal, I would investigate the Golden Nugget.  While I love playing black jack at the Cal, I don't think I would stay there.

But the GN?  LOVE it.  I love it so much I'm going to marry it....okay marry IN it.

I don't get married often, but when I do, I do it in Las Vegas.

This format was the best so here are my faves:

Place to stay: MGM Grand on the Strip; Golden Nugget downtown
Place to party: Tao @ Venetian, Vanity Room @ Hard Rock
Place to eat: Hash House a Go Go; 6800 W Sahara Ave. I've not been to the one at Imperial Palace yet....
Show to see: Crazy Horse Paris @ MGM or O @ Bellagio
Place to gamble:Fremont St - there are seedy casinos (Mermaid, LA Bayou) and hotels (Golden Nugget, Four Queens) Slots are looser & the drinks come more rapidly!
Thing to see: Bellagio fountains, Lion Exhibit at MGM, Pirate show outside TI, all the high end shops @ Caesers, Titanic artifacts @ Luxor, Red Rock Canyon, Hoover Dam & Lake Mead.
Buffet: So far, all the buffets I've been to suck - proceed with caution.

Yes direy25 Golden Nugget is great. Me and my FI stayed down there not even a month ago. We have stayed on the strip at just about every hotel except Venetian and we really like the Golden Nugget.
