Band for him

Hello all! I skimmed the boards and couldn't find this, so please forgive me if it's a re-post.

FI wants a simple band. I really want to get him platinum (he's allergic to everything). But of course, I'm on a budget. Any recommendations for something good and inexpensive?

(I did plan to get it online, because they are cheaper. I might cross post this to my local board later for stores, but for now, let's start online!)

TIA!

Re: Band for him

  • Has he tried anything on yet? I would ask your local board to recommend some local jewelers, and those jewelry exchange places (where there are several vendors in one store), so he can try things on and pick out the style he wants.

FI didn't want to order anything online because he wanted to try things on first. He picked a simple white gold band and I bought it for him at a local shop. I did look around online to see if I could find something similar, but since I couldn't find anything exact then I just ordered him the exact ring he wanted.

I looked on Bluenile.com (request a free ring sizer and they'll send you a coupon, plus look online for more coupons), danforthdiamond.com (I can recommend this website because my rings are from here and I love them), and overstock.com.

  • Yes, we have gone to a local store for sizing and so he can see what he likes. He was wanting the tungston (yipee! I could afford that) but has since changed his mind. He is expecting white gold, so I was trying to step it up a notch since the ring he got me was soooooo beautiful.

    Thanks for your suggestions!

  • Do you know what he is allergic to?

I'll second Danforth Diamond.  My engagement ring is from there and I have had no issues with allergies, even though I've had it for nearly two years and have only had it replated once.  They don't use nickel in their white gold alloys, which often causes jewelry allergies.

If you want to upgrade his ring, you could also look into getting a comfort fit band.  I didn't end up with one myself, but I had no idea that jewelry could be so comfortable until someone had me try one on.
  • Mine has a plain white gold band. I think it was in the $150CAD range.

Honestly, if he's expecting a white gold ring and you're on a budget, I'd just stick with white gold. I doubt he'd notice or care about the difference between white gold and platinum.

  • I bought my wedding band on overstock and I got a great deal!  I did not look at the men's rings, but based on the selection and prices of the women's rings I would recommend looking there.  I got my band yesterday and it is beautiful.
  • My husband just got a simple white gold band from www.e-weddingbands.com. They have very low prices, no tax, free shipping, and an awesome return/exchange policy.
