Deputy for the Day Officiants?

This may be a general marriage license question. Bear with my ignorance, if that's the case.

My fiance and I would like a friend of ours to officiate the wedding and it would send big, unmanageable ripples through the wedding planning if we can't make it happen.

So, when I looked into getting the DFTD paperwork, I noticed that one of the requirements is that bride or groom be residents of the county where the certificate/license are issued. We live in Los Angeles but the wedding is in Orange County.

Does it matter what county your certificate and license are issued in vs. where you're actually married? I'm assuming it just has to remain in California but I don't know! Help!

I'm pretty sure you have to get the marriage license in the county in which you are married. But this should not put a wrench into your planning. If I'm understanding correctly, the issue is that for your friend to be deputizd for the day, you or your fiance need to live in Orange County and you don't. If that's the problem, try looking into the Universal Life Church. My brother-in-law got ordained online and performed our ceremony. He lives in San Diego County and our wedding was in LA.
    Good luck
