OOT room reservations

I am getting married July 12, 2013, and I figured I would start to look for hotel possilities for us and the guests. When did you guys start looking, and is it best to block rooms, and if so  how did you go about it.

We are getting married at CoF.. and having a dinner reception at Canaletto(as of right now).. So I didnt know if anyone had any suggestions on hotels.

My wedding is over a year away and I looked at rooms recently for the same time of year, just to give me an idea of price. However, I think most hotels don't open up reservations until 9 to 10 months before the date. I think if you get room block though, you may be able to get those before... But not entirely sure.
  • Ive been checking for months. I know that some of them now have the rooms open for reservations for July. I just dont if it's best to block rooms or let people make their own reservations

  • We're not doing a room block. On our wedding site we let people know where we booked and have suggested people sign up with the websites of the hotels because they offer codes and perks (truthfully, from what I understand often times these codes are better than the price for room blocks).  We have people who are at all different budget price points so we figured they'd figure it out :)

  • I would just gather as much info and pass it to your guests. If you decide that your reception will be held at Caneletto, I would inform your guests that there is a lot of choices from very budget friendly hotels near (Harrahs, IP), mid level (Mirage, Treasure Island) to pricey (Venetian, Palazzo, Caesars). I don't know any other benefits of room blocks other than your preference to keep all guests together. Some hotels offer a small discount, but you and your guests are better off doing some research on some great discount websites and getting a better rate.
  • Thanks.. Because I want people around for certain things, but other than that I really want them all to go and enjoy themselves..

Call group sales to see if room blocks are available, if not it'll probably be 8 months out. As far as different price points, I booked at 2 different hotels: Orleans (lower end) and Cosmo (higher end, we're having our insuite here). I got very good rates at both considering we're getting married on a holiday weekend.
  • Sometimes the room blocks offer a lower rate than can be found elsewhere-- not always though. It basically will guarantee guests that don't book until closer to the date that they have that price set in stone. For example, my wedding rate at the Flamingo was $40 a night. The cheapest anyone else could find was $55. So it saved a small amount each night-- not tons, but better than nothing. Also, they took really good care of everyone, and tried to give Strip view rooms and had everyone together. So since it does not cost anything to do (I just had to guarantee 5 rooms would be booked, which was easy for my group) it might be worth looking into.

I also just provided my guests with the information and let them book where they wanted to. Some booked at Aria, Cosmo and Mirage. It was totally up to them and their tastes and budgets.

  • Also check out Total Experiences. They can book a room block for you at any of the Total Rewards properties. They can also help with other group planning activities.. I haven't used them but other Knotties said they were great to work with and I think they even got upgrades when available

  • dumb quest- what is a resort fee
  • A resort fee is an additional fee on top of the room rate that some resorts charge. They say it is for use of the gym, pool towels, etc.. but it is really a way to advertise lower rates and still charge you. Most hotels in Vegas are doing it except Harrah's/Caesars Entertainment properties. Some hotels can be $25/day plus tax. If you are there 4 nights, that is over $100 extra than advertised.

  • Check out smartervegas.com for heavy discounted room prices. It's my go to website to book rooms in Vegas now.
