Possible Ann Arbor reception

Hi - I am new to the site and am in the beginning stages of planning my wedding... I recently looked at the Michigan League in Ann Arbor as a possible ceremony/reception site, since I lived in AA for about 12 years during school.  Does anyone have previous experiences with the Michigan League or Union that they could share along with costs?

Also, if anyone has suggestions for other ceremony reception sites in the Ann Arbor area and associated costs, that would be wonderful!  Currently my estimated guest count is 180-200...  I wanted to try and stay away from golf course country clubs and be more towards the historic/vintage/barn setting... Any thoughts or advice would be welcomed.  Thank you!!

Re: Possible Ann Arbor reception

  • I had my ceremony at the League and my reception at the Union 3 weeks ago. Both the League and the Union were great to work with. Most of the planning was with Ken Knell at the Union- he's very professional and made the process easy (well as easy as it could be). The prices are laid out pretty well on the website- just watch out for the service charge. The fees for renting the rooms are very reasonable in my opinion. The food is a bit on the costly side, but for me having the reception in such a beautiful setting was worth it for me. They are very flexible with food choices though- My husband came up with the idea of adding a crepe station (which is listed nowhere in their menu) and the executed it beautifully (we did chocolate/banana, lemon curd/powdered sugar and creme/berries). Day of the staff at the Union were fantastic as well- dinner service went smoothly and the staff were very courteous (asking us if we wanted our food held until we did table visits was nice I thought... not sure if that's standard or not). If you do end up doing the ceremony at the League, I recommend that you stay at the hotel's suite. It is HUGE- It has a bed, 2 couches that pull out into a bed and a large dining table. It was perfect for getting ready with my bridesmaids (especially if you have hair/make up come in). The biggest PITA was parking though- you know Ann Arbor so you know how it is. We ended up paying $5/car for parking at the nearby structure. Sorry if I ended up rambling there...If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

  • If you're looking for vintage/barn setting I'd check out Misty Farms. A venue I looked into & thought was very beautiful, just wasn't what we exactly envisioned for our reception site. Good Luck!
