Job

-I also posted this on FB
So this afternoon I got a job offer!! It is a social work position with the county CPS unit. The job pays $6 more an hour and has great benefits. The down side is I would owe my current job $1500 for tuition reimbursement. The job offer is not for my dream job but I do think it would be great experience. On the other hand I would not be able to start working on my 3000 clinical hours that I need for my LCSW so I can do therapy. I am so torn!

Re: Job

  • Ugh...jobs are so stressful.  Why would you not be able to work on your clinical hours with this new job?  I think if you think it's a good experience it may be worth it for now.  But I don't know anything about social work..haha.  Congrats on the offer!!!
  • Thanks! It is a different field of social work so my hours here would not count.

  • Do the hours for your current job work towards your clinical hours?  Do you have benefits with your current job (and/or will you qualify for your FI's once you get married)?  Money is nice but if you won't be happier and it isn't working towards your end goal, it may not be worth it.  I recently turned down an opportunity to pursue something that was a solid $20k more a year than what I make.  But, I want to go into occupational therapy and I would have been switching from a job in a hospital to a totally different industry.  The money would have made a huge difference for us but it would have made my commute much longer, meant more hours in the office, and made going to school harder if not impossible.  It is important to think of long term goals sometimes over quick monetary benefits.

I can get about 2 to 3 hours a week at my current hob and I really hate it. Currently I work at a residential facility as a floor tech. My boss is awful and the job is awful on certain days. Sometimes I get the crap kicked out of me and sometimes I really like working with the kids. I have benefits right now but the ones at the county are much better. I just really dislike my job right now. I do work for a health system and there are several places that might have a job opening in the future for a place where I can get my hours but I am so unhappy in my current job I don't think its worth waiting around for.

If you are unhappy then I think it is worth leaving.  Especially since the 2-3 hours per week isn't that big of a dent (if it was 40 hours a week, different story).  And better benefits can make a big difference.  Sounds like you know what you want!  Congratulations
