I'm really not normally a biatch on these boards but you're making it really hard for me not to be. I don't know if I want to laugh at your comments or just feel sorry for you.
Shamlessly awing your freaking awesome dog! (I covered Katie's ears before typing that).
XOLOITZCUINTLI -What type of dog is this?? Must..google...
Jas, I once had a massive black and purple bruise on my jaw when a lab from our doggy day care clocked me. I bent over to grab his bowl as he jumped up and Smack! I also remember right after my first root canal I went to adjust Katie's collar and she jerked her thick skull right into the tooth. I curled up on the floor and cried and she freaked out and started howling until Scott came into the room. Effing Catahoula's...all, kicking you when your down and stuff.
I think any Terrier breed needs to have a strong-willed owner. That goes for terriers as small as my 10lb rattie and as large as a Pitbull.
FWIW, I have an aggressive dog. He was a rescue, and while we have made great progress with him, he is still unpredictable. I am very careful where he goes, and who he interacts with as to avoid over-stimulating him to the point where aggression surfaces. If he had been given to a home that did not know how to deal with an aggressive, strong-willed terrier, I am afraid he would be one of those statistics of a dog attack.
I think that aggression or likelihood to attack mostly depends on the breeding of the animal in conjunction with their early-life training, and owners. Mostly the dogs (any breed) get the bad reputation when the fault lies with the owner.
And...after reading the tests the dogs go through I can say with 100% certaintly that my dog would not pass. She does not deal with strangers well and would go for the throat if someone ever approached me in a threatening manner.
Katie- They xolo's are the ugliest dogs ever. I think God was playing a joke when he made that breed. I didn't realize the Whompus had Catahoula in her! I need a Catahoula for Jessie to play with. I think it would rival her energy level.
And since we are sharing stories of large-dog injuries, My mom has a loveable but clumsy 75lb Boxer. Damn if we didn't pull up to her house one day while she was outside gradening with him. He was on a 50ft cable, and the moment he saw me get out of the car, he ran full speed towards me,and completely clotheslined me with his leash, took my off the ground, flat onto my face on concrete with his body on top of me. I looked like I was the victim of a mugging after that incident.
Shiloh would fail those tests too. She hides behind me when people come over. And the noises would likely make her fall over and twitch. I don't know how they'd score that.

Its a similar test that they use for the Canine Good Citizen Test. Thats the test they have to take to become rescue dogs, or therapy dogs in hospitals etc. They cant jump on people, get excited about other dogs, be fearful or timid, etc.
Failing doesnt mean they are going to bite your face off, lol

Laugh if you want, but stereotyping is stereotyping, and thats all I am trying to say. Yes I realized that humans and dogs are on vastly different levels. But people who stereotype are not. Im not trying to pick a fight, just stating my opinion, even though I may not have articulated it perfectly. It is not right to stereotype. You should not condemn many for the actions of a few. That is all I am trying to make a point about. I am not some "pit bull lover" or anything, but stereotyping is a huge pet peeve of mine, and I wish people would try to be open minded and look at the bigger picture sometimes.
I think that when Brinkley recovers from his recent boo boo, we're going to work on getting his Canine Good Citizen certification. He would make an excellent nursing home visitor.
On bed rest since Groundhog's Day and every day since has been exactly the same. Blog
Jas, she is supposedly purebred Catahoula. Personally I think Scott's parents got hosed and a beagle got into the Catahoula pen. She is also the biggest couch potato I've ever met! The pain meds are bringing back her desire to explore though, so that makes me happy.
This was my sweet Catahoula (probably mix or runt, but I did get her in Louisiana) - check out the telltale eyes! I (we) lost her Dec. 27. She had the blue and red leopard spots on her.
I swear, Max has some Catahoula in him.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
Max is almost double the weight Maggie was when she died. He's at almost 57; she was 32 (at her highest overweight, she was 44). I miss my girl like whoa.
And, Max has also given me a black eye with his rock head. When I fell down the stairs 2 weeks ago, he danced around me and barked. When I fell in the yard, he sat on me and licked me. I can't tell if that's a good thing, or a bad thing....

temerityjane: My Jackson has his CGC, and I actually just got a HUGE discount on the pet fee a hotel charges because of that fact. I work as a trainer in East Mesa, and we train and test for the CGC at my store. Best decision I've ever made was to train him. And Alex just graduated from Intermediate on Saturday...she starts advanced and her quest for the CGC on July 10th

Aussies did worse on the stats Blue posted than pit bulls. Isn't she terrifying?
(OR, I'm shamelessly AWing my dog.)
