Groom's Attire with Alabaster Dress???

I bought my dress already, a Maggie Sottero (Paige), in alabaster & I can't figure out which color shirt would be best for my groom to be in --- white or ivory.  The woman at the bridal salon suggested diamond white but the tux shop doesn't have diamond white as an option for the shirts...they only have white, ivory, or black.  The groom & the groomsmen will be wearing colored ties & vests (lapis for the groomsmen to match the bridesmaids & probably black for the groom so he can stand out a bit) but I don't know what to do about the shirt color.

Any suggestions?? I'm afraid white will be too white & make my dress look dingy.  Then if we go with ivory, since my dress isn't even close to ivory, I'm afraid the guys' shirts will look dingy or yellow.  The small amount of shirt that will be showing with their jackets on really isn't that much so maybe it won't be a big deal with the white?? I'm leaning towards the white since my dress is definintely not even close to ivory but I don't know....HELP!!!!  Undecided

  • You can never really go wrong with putting the groom in a white shirt.  No one is going to hold your dress right up to his shirt and exclaim how different they look.  It will be hardly noticeable, if at all, in pictures.

FWIW, my dress is ivory and J will be wearing a white shirt with an ivory vest/tie.

  • I think white will be the safest bet. My dress is ivory, and he will wear white
  • what color is his suit? i think dark gray on the groom and ivory on the bride has such a romantic look, if the wedding is not too formal. white shirt for the groom will be fine i think too. the gray might help soften the look though to the tone of your gown.
  • Thank you everyone for your feedback.  We decided to go with a white shirt, black tux, black vest, and black tie for the groom. Then the groomsmen will be in the same with their vests and ties matching the bridesmaids and our fathers will be in silver.  Thanks again for everyone's help!
