Changing wedding colors? :(

I originally had my heart set on red and gold, but we decided those colors were heavier than what we wanted for our early September wedding. I changed my mind and that a shade of purple would be nice, something like David's Bridal "Sangria."

However, it's been a bitch just looking around for decorations that come in that color of purple. And while the bridesmaid dresses my girls and I picked out had the perfect shade match online, in person it's either a dark purple or a fuschia.

So would it be a good idea to just change the color scheme now? We're so far out, we really haven't done anything that would be affected by it...I just don't know what colors we want. Not pink, orange, or yellow...and I'd really like to stick with gold as our accent if at possible. Would a blue be weird for an outdoor September wedding?

A color is, IMO, a color and if you originally wanted red and gold for your wedding, I don't care whether it's in April, September, or January. I can promise you that not a single guest is going to think "How odd! Her wedding is in September, and she's using red and gold for a color scheme."

I think you choose colors you love and don't look back.

Having said that, my DD did use purple as one of her colors. I think the color was called "Victorian lilac". She used a green the color of honeydew melons as her other color. It was gorgeous.

Don't overthink this. Use what you like.

Go for red and gold. Time of year, season, month, day, hour, really make no difference.

whatever color you choose, matching every single thing to the exact shade is unnessearry, try shades of purple in your decorations, with gold accents even red accents, it doesnt have to be matchy matchy, you can coordinate better with a few shades.

I'm using Sangria-ish colors as well. Use flowers as your main source of color!

I also however agree with PPs about keeping the colors you love!

As has been stated by the others...I don't think season should have much bearing on the colors you choose. That being said, I am having a hard time figuring out how red and gold are not fall colors? I mean I know you said early September...but September to me is fall or at least starting to be...and if you consider it to be summer....well I still think those colors are fine. Go with your gut on this one. Do you want to look back at your pictures and think "I wish I had gone with what I always wanted..." ? Don't settle, espeically since there's no reason you absolutely have to.

FH and I originally were thinking of an October wedding and we wanted to do red and gold. I think it's a great combo for that time of year! If you wanted to do something to make it less "heavy," maybe add in a pale pink as a third color/accent color
