New to the Columbus Board

Hi everyone!

I just discovered they have individual boards for different cities, so this is exciting to me!  Let me introduce myself, I am getting married October 27, 2012, on my and FI's 8 year anniversary.  We are high school sweethearts and started dating when I was 15 (he was 16) and have been together exclusively ever since.  I am graduating in December with my masters in early childhood education :) and right now I'm struggling with finding cute outfits for our outside engagement shoot next month.

P.S. Why are the E boards so harsh?! I got ripped to shreds for a post about not making my SIL my maid of honor because she was in Germany (military with my brother) and wasn't even sure she'll make it to the wedding, so I made her a BM in case she can't make it then she will be an honorary BM :0 they were HARSH.  The worst critic was a lady who has been married for 1100 (something) days, not that I'm complaining that she shouldn't be on here because shes married but at least be NICE! I have been reading posts on here and you all sound like a wonderful set of down-to-earth women!

    Hello and Welcome!

There are a lot of married ladies around these boards (local and international) including myself. A lot of ladies are more comfortable with TK rather than TN and that is perfectly ok.

Yes, E can be sort of harsh sometimes, but that is why it is always best to lurk awhile and "feel out" the board and the ladies. I hang out on E, but not as much as some of the other ladies. I also watch what I get involved in. And another thing to remember is that some of them are friends and have met IRL so they know each other well enough to joke around with them, etc.

I hope you like it here on the Cbus board. It is a really good group of ladies. In fact, I just met 2 of the lovelies last week at our GTG. Maybe you can join us for the next one.

Oh yeah, and I am a preschool/early childhood teacher as well. Love the little ones.

Welcome. I am the one who organzies the GTG's (i.e. get togethers) for us Columbus Knotties.

I am also trying to find something to wear too! I may check out TJ Maxx here soon to find some good budget items. I just can't get distracted by pretty purses. hahah. We are having out pictures done on October 10 at The Ohio State University and The Ohio Stadium. I am excited. We are looking around for a f-ball jersey that actually fits me instead of looking like a garbage bag for some pictures.

I definitely think you should join us for the October GTG! There is an open poll right now about choosing a day. Stay tuned, there will be other polls shortly.

    Welcome! :)
I, too, was excited when I found the Columbus board. These girls have helped me so much with finding vendors, etc. And it's a great place to vent if you need to!
I once posted on the E board and I am thinking I will never do that again LOL I think it is also hard to tell tone of voice on a chat forum. But, yes, there are some ladies on there that I have seen be VERY rude to other girls. I remember one girl asking a question about invitations and everyone ripped her to shreds because they think she sent them out too early. Poor thing was like, "Wow, none of you answered my question, but you made me want to cry!" Everyone is different in their preferences and it's YOUR day so you do what you want :) That's my theory. Anywho....
FI and I are getting our e-pics done tonight!!! I, too, went out and got a new outfit. I am wearing black & white with awesome red pumps. I don't wear high heels too often so this could be interesting...
Hope you enjoy your time on the Columbus board! I know I have been enjoying it :)

Hello and welcome! I think you've found the right place--the ladies on this board are very positive and supportive. You may also want to check out your wedding month/year board as I've had great experiences with the August 2012 board as well (my date is August 25, 2012).

Where are you and FI getting married? I haven't even started thinking about my outfit for e-pics, which will be in October, but I'm sure when I do it'll be quite a production! If you are planning to buy a new outfit for e-pics there are a ton of great fall clothes coming out now. Fall is my favorite season for clothes.

I have never posted on any of the "main" boards. I do think the ladies there get a little carried away and I honestly believe some of them are working out their real-life frustrations by taking them out on unsuspecting posters! (This is no offense to you, MissySue, because from what I can tell you are a great lady!)

I was excited to read that you are getting married on your 8 year anniversary!  Congrats! My fiance and I are getting married on the 5th year anniversary from the day we met.  I think it will make the day just that much more special!

I've only been partiicpating in the Columbus board for about a week and I love it so far. You all are so friendly and i've gotten some great ideas. I look forward to the October GTG. : )

I think I may have to participate in this October GTG :)

Ajoyd, we are getting married at the Worthington Inn, it is very New England (I originally come from VT so it is perfect!).  I checked out the October 2012 boards, they seem to be less harsh as well :)

MissySue, I've learned my lessons, I lurked on here and came to the conclusion that you all were a great group of ladies, with great input! I like that there are married ladies on here because they can help us non-married ladies :) I'm excited you're a teacher too!

GApeach, shoes are my downfall, I have enough cute shoes for the e-pics so I need to STAY AWAY from the shoe department!

Mgoeser, congrats to you as well!! I figure if I give FI the same anniversay date, he won't forget :) but no promises right?

jackson- shoes are my downfall. I just cleaned my out and cleaned the out before I moved here. I still don't have enough room for them all, but I am making progress.
My advice, don't wory. You're focus isn't on your shoes. No one is going to look at the pictures and say "WOW look at those shoes", or "really?! Those are ugly shoes." The only time I would say something like that is if they were BRIGHT colored or sparkly heels. :)

Hello and WELCOME!  Love the Cbus board, lots of great feedback and referrals for vendors.  Who needs a wedding planner when you've got the Columbus Ohio Knotties???  ;)

I'm doin my e-pics later this month.  Any pointers would be lovely, Kate2dance!  Hope it goes well for you, the weather has surely taken a turn for the better ;)

So tell us about your wedding!  Theme, colors, size, traditional, modern, quirky?  Do you have a dress?  Pics are my fav, lol, just a suggestion ;)

    Congrats on the engagement!

I usually just lurk, but your story is so similar to mine--  FI and I started dating freshman year of high school (ages 14 and 15) and haven't looked back!  We will be getting married in June of 2012, a bit shy of our 8 year anniversary and a week after we graduate.

I had the same trouble picking an outfit for my e-pics.  I didn't actually decide until about 2 hours before we took the pictures, but you will figure it out!  My only advice is to stay true to you. FI and I are both fairly casual.  For one of the locations I was planning on wearing a really cute dress and while I love the dress-- it just didn't reflect my day to day style and I wanted out pictures to truly reflect us.

Good luck and happy planning! :)

Welcome Jackson!  Thanks for joining us on the FUN board Cool.  I am with you though, I lurked on some of the other boards and posted once or twice, but the ladies weren't very helpful (and some are downright rude) so I stopped.  (Hence the low number of posts because I basically only post on here).

Anyway, I stressed over what to wear for e-pics.  I wanted a formal outfit and a more casual, but still fancy, outfit.  At midnight the night before I thought: "I am not even comfortable in these clothes.  How am I going to sit and jump and kiss and act natural if I don't feel like myself?"  I ended up changing last minute into a shirt (blouse?) I really liked with dark jeans for one outfit and then one of my favorite summer dresses for the other.  I am SO happy I did.  The pictures turned out great and we looked like ourselves...not some glammed up, moderately similar versions of ourselves.

hi welcome! mr.owl and i are HS sweethearts too!
  • edited December 2011
We are doing our e-pics at Homestead Park in Hilliard.  We both are kind of country and it has a bicentenial barn, a mock train station, a covered bridge, and LOTS of greenery, so casual is a must (we are both very casual).

MontyandKelly, our wedding is VERY small, kind of vintage, our colors are burgundy (even though DB calls it Sangria) and venitian gold (not like gold gold but tanish gold).  I did buy my dress already!! I got it at Elegant Bride in Dublin.  Pictures are below! It isn't me in the dress I found these online.  Long story short, there was a sign that says please do not photograph the merchandise so I was afraid to ask and ended up not asking.

P.S. I love hearing about other HS sweethearts!!

That's a BEAUTIFUL gown!!  LAce gowns are sooooo elegant!

I wish our wedding was smaller...ugh, but I will not get into that now.  Our colors are burgundy and gold also!!  And black too ;)  I've had to get pretty creative with this color palette.  Lots of DIY
