Port-o-potty?

We are getting married in an old barn that has been turned into an art gallery. The venue is georgous. However, they only have 2 one stall restrooms and we are having about 175 guests. The owner suggested to rent a port-o-potty. I just can't get over the idea! What would your thoughts be if you went to a wedding and had to use a port-o-potty? Thank you!

There's actually an alternative to what you might be thinking.
They're called portable restroom trailers and they can actually be alot nicer than you might think.
Fi and I were thinking we were gonna have to go this route until our venue informed us that they were actually building cabins for restrooms on the property (like you, it's an old heritage farm that being converted into a wedding facility)

If you do choose port-a-potties, figure out a way to have them lit. I went to a wedding with them and it was awkward to use in the dark in a nice dress.

I went to an event (not a wedding, but moderately formal nonetheless) with one of those trailer bathrooms and it was actually very nice, though I have no idea how much they'd cost. Even if they're perfectly clean there's still a certain ick factor associated with port-a-potties.

"Portable Restrooms" are not your parents' porta-potty. They are trailers that are set up with actual flushing toilets, running faucets, etc. They also come in different sizes and price points. Do a google search to see what is available in your area, but I think you'll be surprised and how nice and modern they can be.

Ditto. H and I went to dinner one night and the restaurant was remodeling their bathrooms, so they had an emergency exit door open which led right out to a 'luxury portable restroom trailer'. It looked something like this from the outside:

I'm not sure how much they are to rent, but it's defintiely better than the standard plastic port-o-potty (which you might have to use too...in your wedding dress)

I think that the restrooms on site are probably adequate. We had 1 women's and 1 men's stall for the 120 guests we had and I do not think there was ever more than 1 person maybe waiting. If you are going really late and think there will be lots of excessive drinking then maybe look into other options, but I think you will be fine and your money would be better spent else where.

I also agree that the bathrooms on site are adequate. And port-a-potties are just gross.

I went to a very nice wedding in upstate NY and they had a spare port o potty. It was decorated with roses.

I've been to events where there wre fancy trailer like bathrooms, completely with a mirror, sink, counter, bathroom caddy and even background music! I bet they are pricy though.

I would rent something. I had 80 people and 2 1 stall restrooms and there was pretty much always a line (granted a short one - and i don't think everyone knew about the 2nd restroom unfortunately). For that many people, I'd definately suggest additional stalls. If the fancier port a potties are out of the budget, at least a regular one.

I agree on the trailer bathrooms. You can even decorate the outside so it doesn't look like it was just dropped there. They can be pretty nice. I have used them a few times at various places, and didn't have any complaints.

Our venue is very rustic (barn is our Plan B for rain); 99% completed with our guestlist so it looks like we'll have around 95 all together. Same deal; the owner of the venue told us we'll have to rent a port-a-potty *yikers!!*

I called the place nearest to our venue and they explained that they save the newer/nicer/cleaner ones for events such as this and not to worry; they get a bad rap just because of the nature of their business.

We plan on having a little table nearby with all sorts of lovely toiletries so soften the fact that there will be a port-a-potty on site.

You are not alone!!

****I should also add, I did obtain price quotes from "Royal Restrooms" (a more upscale event potty rental place) and they were 5x the regular rent-a-potty quotes)****

I have no choice at my wedding, as well - but I was VERY surprised when I walked into the 'trailer' version that will be at my wedding. They really aren't that bad. I actually checked a venue off my list because of their bathrooms & somehow was okay with the trailer port-o-potty(??). Get some quotes - they are out there & as long as you spend a little to put some flowers & a basket with some cute stuff in it, people will not complain.

We are getting married at my fiance's parent's ranch and have to rent portable restrooms. It is way more reasonably priced than I was expecting. It may be worth looking into if you are worried about it. We are getting a trailer with two separate restrooms that have flushing toilets, lighting, sinks, mirror etc for $350 with delivery and pickup.

We have to use regular porta-pottys for our wedding. My tip is to get a regular sized one and a handicap one. The handicap ones are larger and easier to get in and out of in your dress. Its also nicer for parents that have to take their little kids to the bathroom.

Portable restrooms can be very pricey if you are budget-conscious. I am having an outdoor wedding, and am needing some extra restrooms, but still not break the bank. I am renting 2 port-a-potties. I am renting 2 handi-capped ones that way there is extra room. I am going to have lighting, and a small table in each, with toilet paper, lotion, ect. When you rent a port-a-potty they are clean, and are not gross. Yes, they are not "nice", but they are clean and are a good alternative to expensive restroom trailers.

Those restroom trailers may be nice but they're crazy expensive. If you've got the budget, go for it, but if not, get a regular port-a-pot and run with it. That's what we're planning at our wedding. We're going to have lighting inside and fancy soaps and lotions. I'm even considering a chandelier and a sign that says "Toilette". Because, come on, port-a-pots are funny. And they're more funny with a chandelier.

So I am in the same exact situation. I have to rent porta-potties for my wedding (as the venue has required of me) - and it's a scary thing. My fiance really doesn't like the idea, but the venue is too beautiful to pass up. I am assuming that you have had your wedding since this past post. How did it go? Were your guests at all thrown off by the porta-potty thing?
