Honeymoon/Name Change - What I decided to do . . .

I know this was a recent post and I'm glad that it was, because I honestly had never thought about it before then.

Since we're taking our honeymoon in December, I don't want to risk my passport not coming in with my new last name. I did call the service number on my passport and they weren't helpful at all.

The lady there said that I could request a name change after the wedding, but when I asked her how long that would take she said "I don't know, when you call back they can tell you." Well, if I call back and they say it takes 3 months and my honeymoon is in 2 months then I'm screwed. So, I'm not going to follow her suggestion.

I am going to change my name socially after the wedding and then legally after the honeymoon.

Also see this article I found on The Knot advising to NOT change your last name legally until AFTER your honeymoon.

Hope that helps!  :)

  • I agree. :) The flight reservation is booked under my maiden name.

  • We're leaving for our honeymoon 3 days after the wedding - there won't be any time to change my name beforehand.  I do plan to vote early, as I will likely change my name before election day and I don't want to deal with the hassle of changing my voter registration (I don't think they even let you change it that close to the election).

I didn't even think about the complications with voting, I'm gonna have to remember to vote early.

<div>I did not think of this either!  We're taking our honeymoon in the summer, so I'm going to change my name before we go.</div>

  • If we weren't going on our honeymoon right after the wedding, I would change everything except my passport and do that after we get back from the honeymoon.  Like I said before, I lived with my names being different all over the place.  Heck I even changed my name at work a year before I changed it at the SS office.

  • Reading posts like this makes me so happy that I'm not changing my name!  No paperwork or legal forms to deal with LOL!
