Bridesmaids gifts

Is it acceptable to just give your bridesmaids gifts that are to be used on the wedding day?  For example, I plan on giving my BMs a pashmina and pair of earrings to be worn on the wedding day.  Should I also get them something else more personal?

    I agree with edie. I made jewelry for my bridesmaids, but I also gave them each a book. We got the groomsmen their ties and they also each got a book. All the books were different, according to individual tastes.
