Riu Resort in Costa Rica

Has anyone stayed here or known anyone that has?  Just like to get a good review before we decide for sure to go with it!  How the food is, is very important to us.  We've been to other resorts places where the food is just terrible we love good food so that disappointed us!  Any insight is great, thanks so much!!

Re: Riu Resort in Costa Rica

  • We stayed at the Riu Guancaste for our friends DW in November. We had a fabulous time, we found that there was always something to eat, I enjoyed the buffet more than the a la cartes, but they were still good and a nice change from the buffet. The staff at the resort were amazing! Drinks were great, wine not so good! (if you enjoy a drink) The beach is not the best, I got little bug bites, but some people (mainly the boys) got none, they seemed to like the woman! With that said we had a great time on the beach playing volleyball, etc - water was perfect. Pool bar got rowdy some afternoons, however we played into this since there was 60+ in our wedding group. If you go to CR make sure you do some excursions, totally worth every penny! GL with your planning! :)

  • Thank you so much!  Thats perfect we are planning to go in November!  How was the weather at that time?  Any excurison recomendations?  I wanted to do something to see the volcano and possibly a rafting one!  That helps alot I was worried about food :)
  • We loved the Riu! The resort itself is lovely. The food was great (buffets were better than a la cartes, but it was all good), but skip the wine (you can buy good wine in the shops on the resort and bring it to dinner with you if you want though, we met some people who did that each night). The beaches are not white sand; it's black sand and there are some rocky areas, which didn't bother us and we actually really liked. There are also some trees on the beach which I liked for shade. If you're pool people, the pool is nice and warm.

Costa Rica is a beautiful country. Try to get to Arenal volcano if you can (it is a bit of a drive away, but it gets you into the rainforest as well). We also did a great river boat ride in Palo Verde National Park.
