Ugggg...DJ horrors...

Met last night with two different DJ companies and Ive gotta be honest.. they both sucked! First of all, I am IMMEDIATELY turned off when the guy's name is 'DJ McCool' or "Dj John' or some other such nonsense. The guys name should be Michael or Jim or Laurie (if its a girl DJ.. hey, I have NO problems with girl DJs! Girl power!).

One guy I met with showed me a picture of his DJ set up, and he actually has a UM logo glued to the back of his laptop for all the guests to see (I dont need to pay to advertise for the 'U', thank you very much!) and his 'DJ Ridiculous' name in shiny silver letters. How awful!

The second place I went to the DJ was literally 45 minutes late. Inexcusable!

This whole DJ thing is gross, they are (at least the ones I met with) incredibly tacky, but I just dont have the budget for a band.

Does ANYONE know a DJ who isnt a nightclub wannabe who can provide music, do emcee work and not be totally tacky and gorss all over my wedding?

Wow sorry about your bad experience. Shannon from Liquid DJs will be our wedding DJ and he is awesome. Super nice and professional too!

DJ Billman is awesome! He has 15 years of experience and is not a DJ McCool guy. Plus he has really great prices. djbillman.com

Check out Mike Sipe. (No tacky DJ names there!) We booked him for our wedding. He offers something called "DJ Live" you get best of both worlds with a DJ and you can add as many instruments as you want. So lets say you want a Frank Sinatra song..the DJ will play the track and the instruments will join along. It was exactly what we were looking for without even knowing what we wanted! And his prices are pretty good too!

    HTH!

Check out Event Factor. Mike is the owner and my DJ and I love him. Very professional and even came to me on a Sunday bc my FI's schedule is a mess.

thanks for some of the recs... heres the thing for me - I want a DJ to play music and to fade one song to the next. When they start telling me about how they match the beats per minute, I am gone. I have no interest in it - and it shows that the DJ has no interest in me. I want the DJ to play the music I want, NOT what they want, and if they have any sort of sign with their name or their company's name on their dj set up I am gone. Its not rocket science, and I have now met with 5 DJs and they have all been the pits.

i totally get where you're coming from. I met with a few DJ companies and on guy had us wait an hour, he was good but because he made us wait I did not hire him cause of the unprofessionalism.

I hired MB Entertainment for our wedding. Mike seems very professional and has a good work ethic. I would look into them and see if they are a good fit for you.

    HTH!

Have you tried Eddie B. & Company or Vision DJ's? I went with Eddie B. & Company, but also met with Jorge A. with Vision DJ's, who we really liked.

I agree with pp about Mike from MB Entertainment.  My FI is very big into music production so he asked many questions about set up, equipment and music.  Bored me to tears, but the guy really knows his stuff.  He really understood our vision too.

Sorry you're having such a hard time finding a DJ.  I'm sending you knottie vibes that you find the DJ of your dreams. :)

My FI is/was a DJ (he worked for Mike Sipe a few years ago) and we're going with Liquids. They're a little more expensive then some of the others out there, but they have some sample mixes online that my FI liked, and he spoke with Shannon for about 30 minutes and he feels really comfortable with his style, musical knowledge, equipment, etc.

i just went through the dj nightmare too lol this was one of my least favorite things to try & book haha... BUT we JUST booked Vision DJ's... they are awesome so far and on weddingwire.com they have PERFECT reviews, literally.  once you book them you get access to their online database and you can plan everything EXACTLY how you want it (and what you don't want!!)  we talked with Jorge A, but we don't know which DJ we are going to have yet... but reading the weddingwire.com reviews really sold me b/c EVERY DJ they named everyone LOVED (there's only 8 w/ this company).  So i'm really happy w/ our decision so far :):) good luck!!

I had Liquid DJs for my wedding and I loved them. They are super classy and stylish. Did you see their set up? It's white leather Dj booth and a Mac computer. None of those garbage stickers and ugly self promotion, just beautiful.

They are more expensive than Vision DJs and MB Entertainment but they are totally worth it. I follow their facebook and they do a lot of amazing events at the Ritz-Carlton, W Hotel and Vizcaya.

Sorry you had that terrible experience. We're using Liquid DJs and they've been great so far! I've also seen a lot of Knotties on here rave about VisionDJs so maybe look both of them up. HTH and Good luck :)

I hired AA Musicians (Alan Andai) and he is coordinating our DJ and also a guitar player for the ceremony....his company does MAJOR events and he is the reccommended DJ fro my venue (Villa Woodbine which is upscale so I know that he does good work)...he's been great and a true professional so far...not cheesy in the slightest...
