Addressing invitaitons

Did anyone opt for the informal, i.e. Brian and Maggie Smith, over the formal, i.e. Mr. and Mrs. Brian Smith, when they addressed their invitations?

I am going to be working on my envelopes tonight and I am leaning toward the informal but am curious to know what you all did.

Re: Addressing invitaitons

  • I did the formal
but the invite lady messaged up on few that were couples unmarries and so some came out like
     "Ms. Maggie Smith
      John Butler
      1234 Main Rd. "

which is prob wrong but oh well it was only 3 or 4

I did a little more formal...

Mrs. Jane and Mr. John Smith
    James, Jennifer and Julian
    123 Street Rd.

I didn't bother with inner envelopes so I listed kids' names (oldest to youngest) on the outside under the parents' names (ladies first).

    ETA:

Unmarried people living together I did like this:

    Ms. Jane Doe
    Mr. John Smith
    James, Jennifer and Julian
    123 Street Rd.

For older married couples that would be familiar with the most traditional of wording, we did:
    Mr. and Mrs. John Smith

For younger married couples in our circle of friends that might be a bit put off if we left off the woman's name, we did:
Mrs. Jane and Mr. John Smith

For unmarried people living together, we did:
    Mr. John Smith
    Ms. Jane Doe

Thanks! And also I realized I spelled invitations wrong in the headline...oops :)

I think I will go with the Mrs. Jane and Mr. John Smith style. I just don't care for leaving off the female spouse's name, even if that is more traditional.

  • oh my goodness...I didn't even think of this while addressing invitations.  The all went out to Jane and John Doe.  Whoops!
  • I wanted the female name in their but FI printed the envelopes and got the more traditional way.

  • For married couples:
    Mr. and Mrs. John Doe

    For married couples with kids:
    Mr. and Mrs. John Doe
    Susie, Sally, and Jamie

    For unmarried couples:
Mr. John Doe and Miss Susie Q
    or
Mr. John Doe and Ms. Susie Q

    For unmarried couples with kids:
Mr. John Doe and Ms. Susie Q
    Sally, Sven, and Harry

    or
Mr. John Doe and Miss Susie Q
    Sally, Sven, and Harry

(depends on which parent the kids belong to)

    That's how I wrote ours :)
