Photographer for creative downtown photos

Hi all!

So, for our wedding this summer, we're having our ceremony at noon and our cocktail hour/reception starting at six downtown.  The idea that instead of missing our own cocktail hour while we rush through posed pictures, we're going to do a long leisurely photo session with our friends and family all over downtown in the 5 or so hours between the ceremony and reception.  Since everyone is going to be coming in from all over the country for the wedding, we thought this would be a great way to show everyone the sights together, while getting some really unique pictures of us in front of the major landmarks.  Since this is kind of unconventional, we're looking for a photographer who'd be able to help us with this and keep everybody energized and having fun, and keep the pictures fresh and exciting.  We want to make sure we get pictures that really take advantage of the locations, and not just tourist style snapshots.  Does anybody have any suggestions for photographers or a good way to find one who'd be well suited?

Thanks!

Check out Life on Prints. Tony has years of experience shooting weddings around Chicago and IMO is great to be around. The website is www.lifeonprints.com.

You may also want to look at Studio R run by a photographer named Robyn. She went to school at Columbia Chicago and is really young and energetic. Her website is www.studiorblog.com.

Are you looking for someone to take pictures of the whole day or just the session in between the ceremony and reception? Our photographer has a great eye for the urban environment. You can check out our engagement pics in my bio or check out her website and her blog: erosephoto.com

    I second Life on Prints!
Tony and Michelle are very creative and always seem to find unique locations to photograph.  Don't forget to bring plenty of snacks and drinks along, that will help everyone to stay alert and excited for the photo shoot.
Just curious, are you having a videographer?
It would be such a great time to film your friends and family all together at one time, and touring Chicago with you. Sounds like so much fun, good idea!

We are using Brian Kinyon, he is great. We did our engagement pics so far and we loved them. I also really like Life on Prints. I would suggest finding someone you can afford for "unlimited time" or whatever since that is really going to be a long day!

    Check out www.HappyBuddyPhoto.com

This is what one of their clients posted to everyone:

Jill and Gordon were ABSOLUTELY wonderful. They put me and my wishes above all else, and really wanted to make sure I as getting everything I wanted out my of my pictures. They were so professional, and I loved that they offered you two photogaphers. They were able to capture both my husband and I getting ready which was really important to me. Not to mention that there were so many shots to chose from. The album that they produce is so incredible. It is unlike anything I have seen before. It is a magazine style album so the photos are layered and go over the entire page as oppose to just 4x6 standard photos. They are so wonderful, they even delivered it to me so that it would not get damaged in transit. Ilooked into many photographers and their prices were by far the best and I am lucky to have found them. If anyone is looking for a photographer you MUST call Jill and Gordon. Check out their website, their work speaks for itself!

    Hey!

Check out Tasha Schalk at www.redwallphotography.com.  She's really spunky and fun and her pictures are incredible.  The photos she did for my wedding this past summer were superb.  She is a friend of my husband and I, in all disclosure, but I think her pictures speak for themselves.  I also think this is just the kind of thing that she'd find really cool.

heather parker does so many photos downtown. we hired her for our wedding. i agree with the above poster, her blog http://www.heatherparker.com/blog was always great just to get ideas for the cool spots like the skyline, millenium park, the trains, union station and michigan ave. most photographers in chicago can probably do downtown photos.

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys!  I'll look into all of these places!  To answer some of the questions, we're looking for a photographer to do the more traditional shots of the ceremony and reception, as well as all of the shots around the city.  So we'd love to find a photographer in our budget who'd do unlimited day of coverage, since it is definately going to be a long day!  It'd be great to do an engagement session with the photographer, too, so that we could get a sense of each other before the big day. We're undecided about a videographer - still mulling it over.  Anyway, thanks for the tips, and keep em coming!
