  Something edible. Gourmet chocolates always go over well.  I'm sure you could ask your venue for recommendations for a local candy shop.
  
  Favors don't have to "match" your wedding location, nor are they even required.
  
  9.9 times out of 10, it is best to have something edible.

  Edible favors are always best, and especially for destination weddings when people are traveling to your wedding, and will need to pack anything you give them.

  Yes, edibles are always the best. You could try to do something local, like jam or honey. If syrup is made in that area, you could see if a local syrup maker has little bottles (or is willing to fill some up if you provide them) and use that. 

  
  

  I'm having a DW in northwestern Montana and I'm using huckleberry jam because it's locally grown and buying stickers with our colors and initals to put on the jars.

  They can be pricey but what about maple sugar candy in heart shapes? Also , you can't ever go wrong with chocolate. I had heart shaped chocolate suckers at mine on each plate when people came in. They had clear wrappers on them to keep them clean. On the back I put stickers on them that I found through Oriental Trading that said "Thank you for sharing our day with us" . The extra stickers made great envelope decorations on my thank you cards.
  
  If you want something less fragile then candy, what about hot chocolate or hot applie cider packets that are personalized?
  
  I'm sure whatever you do will be great & hope you have a great wedding.
