Sunburn Remedies

I remember reading some sunburn remedies on here last summer. H and I are burnt pretty bad right now and go figure, it's only day two of our vacation. We bought aloe, but it doesn't seem to do much for us. I thought I read something on here last summer about condensed milk or potatoes? Anyone have any tips or tricks that can help us out?

Thanks!

Re: Sunburn Remedies

  • I laugh about other people's sunburns, never my own.

I typically just go with the aloe vera.  Next time I'm going to try the cool towels though.

I have used the lidocaine spray for expecially bad ones in the past as well, but it really just numbs the pain which doesn't stay around long for me.

  • COLD = BAD FOR BURNS

It's the same reason you don't put ice on, when you burn your finger during cooking. You're not allowing the heat to be released from the burn.

Honestly, and this is going to hurt for a few minutes: A warm to hot shower will work the best in the long run. Your sunburn will not last as long, I promise. And the aloe vera works to prevent peeling, but doesn't do much for the actual burn.

In my First Responder class, they teach you to cover a burn, not put anything on it that would hinder it's ability to let the heat out.
  • Tylenol and Motrin help too (one is for pain, the other is for the inflammation).

  • My boss told me to do this. It works.

Get a spray bottle, put vinegar and spray yourself. Let it drip dry and don't rub it off. It might sting for a bit but the next day it'll be much better.
