S/O Bin Ladin- Where were you on 9/11?

Re: S/O Bin Ladin- Where were you on 9/11?

  • This shows how young I am but I was in 5th grade. I remember my mom picking me up from school (I usually rode the bus) and telling me what happened.
  • I was homeschooled with another family and when they showed up to my house our moms just told us to go downstairs and play for awhile. They stayed upstairs and we had no idea what was going on.
They came downstairs and turned on the tv and told us to get our school and do it there. While we were watching the second tower was hit. It is something I won't ever forget.

  • Sophomore year of High School in my Advanced Geometry class, middle row, back desk. All of the TV's in the entire school were turned on to the news from the library with no ability to turn them off in the classrooms. My teacher tried to turn it off even after seeing what it was, but failed. Nothing else was accomplished school-wise the rest of the day. All classes focused on that.
  • I was in my first class in 6th grade. My teacher stood up with tears flowing down her face and told us that the WTC had been flown into with planes and was falling down. I wasn't sure what those buildings were but I knew it was a huge deal. My mom picked me up from school and we just watched tv all evening. I was shocked.

  •   I was in high school. The school let out early and I went home where the first thing I did was ask my dad ( a Captain in the Air Force) what was going on. He said (I'll never forget it) "honey, I am just as confused as you are!" and then we cried. About a month later he was deployed. 9/11 was a day that literally changed my families life forever.

  • I was a freshman in high school.  I was getting ready to catch the bus and my dad called (he was already at work) and told us to turn on the tv.  I saw the smoke coming from the tower and said "and?  a building is on fire in NYC...".  Then I saw the taglines that said a plane crashed into the tower.  I still thought, "how could you not see those buildings, oh".  Then as I was on the phone with my dad we saw the live feed of the second plane hitting.  That was my OMG moment.  I realized that 1.  It wasn't an accident and 2.  It wasn't a little plane.

I got to school and everything literally stopped that day, we didn't even try to do schoolwork, in every class we were watching the news.  I remember being in my math class and watching the first tower come down.  It was a crazy day.

A friend of mine from college is from NJ and he said his high school wouldn't turn on the TV and they wouldn't even let parents pick up their kids.  Some of his classmates had parents die that day while they were being forced to do their homework.  Even my friend was having a panic attack because his dad had a meeting in the WTC that day, but it ended up getting cancelled because one of the guys' wife went into labor that morning.  My friend didn't know that so he had to go through the whole day of school wondering if his dad was alive or not.

I was a sophomore in high school and we were taking the ISTEP test (standardized exam). We were on a break and another teacher came rushing in the room and turned on the TV. We thought it was a joke at first since we had been taking exams all morning, but as it went on, and got worse, we realized the scope of what had happened. We had to finish the writing portion of our exam and I'm pretty sure that everyone scored lower than 'usual' because no one could focus. I think all after-school activities were canceled that day.
  • I was getting ready for school ( I was in 8th grade) and mom started screaming my name. I ran into her room, she pointed at the TV, and I sank to the floor. I had just gotten back from NYC the week before with my grandparents, and we had decided to cut the trip short. I went to school and cried in every single class. My classmates thought i was crazy, I don't think anyone really understood what was going on. I remember my mom getting the Time magazine special edition a few days later, with the cover of the Twin Towers on fire and smoking, and I sobbed over it for hours. I just couldn't understand why people would do that. I didn't get it.
  • I was in high school and we were watching the television during astrology. A kid in my class just started crying hysterically, and then he left in a rage. We didn't find out until later that his father was at a business meeting in the WTC and had been killed. When I found that out, I felt really bad. And....that's when I knew I wanted to be a police officer. We were let out early because of our high school's location in relation to DC.

I was in 5th grade in math class. Me and a few of the kids at my table were talking when all of a sudden one of the 2nd grade teachers ran into our room in her crazy colored socks and whispered something in my teacher's ear. I watched as my teacher's mouth dropped open and then rushed over to the tv and turned on the news. We saw a woman holding a baby in NYC talking to the reporter and then they switched the camera just in time to see the 2nd tower get hit. I was immediately terrified and had a million questions. We watched the news the rest of the day and I kept wondering if my uncle who lived in NYC was okay, whether this was going to start a war that would take my dad away from me (he was in the air force), and what it would be like when i went home to the military base I lived on (an ammunition plant to be exact). The entire day was terrifying and I have so many ties to it that I simply thank God that we finally got Bin Laden and pray that nothing that awful ever has to happen again.
