Nail Help

So I'm wanting to get some fake nails done and I have not ever done this before. I want to get them pretty natural looking. I don't want those super thick ones...just shorter and slightly squared off and relatively thin. My natural nails just look like crap lately and I have no time to groom them and getting a regular manicure will only last me a week with all the dishes I do.
Does anyone have any nail salon rec's? I know there are different types of nails too (solar, acrylic, gel)...which type is best?

Any advice on this is appreciated!

I feel really slobby and unattractive lately and I'm hoping having pretty nails will boost my glam factor up just a bit.

--Oh and on a side note, did you all know that there are really good makeup tutorials on youtube? I just discovered them this weekend and they are really helpful!

I have worn solar nails forever.  These are the ones that look like a french manicure all the time.  I type all day so color always chips so this is all I wear.

If you like the look of a french manicure ALL the time, they're great.  You also don't have to wait for them to dry which is another plus.

The downsides are they take the longest to put on/get filled and are the most expensive.

I wear solar nails too when I get them.   I have super short nails because I bite them and they look the best on me.  They are fairly thick though.. or at least mine are but that might be because I have no real nails to support them.

Like Stephie said though, they are pricey and take forever to put on.

ditto the solar nails. I got my nails done for my wedding day at Polo Nails off of Preston.. just south of 121. I loved them. They felt more natural than any other time I've gotten them done.

Thanks for the help girls!  I will look into the solar nails. I was looking at prices online and it's crazy how some salons charge $38 for a new set and some charge $60.

If you aren't wanting thick acrylics then there is a nail salon and spa in Plano called Polished that has and OPI product call Axium Gel.  It's just a gel that goes over your natural nail. It goes on similar to polish and then hardens to help your natural nails grow longer without having to get a full set of acrylics. You can get it in several neutral shades or they also have some colors.  I'm getting mine done this week and then plan on continuing the process until the wedding.  I work in a kitchen so I know what you mean about the whole dishes thing (I break atleast 1 nail a week if not more!)

    Good Luck!
