Dress Designers?

Morning Ladies,

So i know "we're not planning till we are engaged" but has anyone skimmed through dresses and have designers in mind that you like? or are pretty sure you will buy your dress from?

curious and need to be entertained Kiss

Well, I have perused.  There are some designers whose aesthetics I prefer more and some designers whose aesthetics I'm not particularly fond of.  I have a general idea of styles I might like (they vary widely, and I'd have to try them on).  But since I'm almost 2 years out from my wedding, I think it'd be premature of me to look now.  I have no idea what I'll like in a year, much less two.

So...that being said, I like Monique Lhullier, Lazaro, Pnina Tornai, and Maggie Sottero.  I really dislike Kenneth Pool.

I really like Le Spose di Gio.  It's going to be way out of my budget, but I love the airy, flowiness of the designs.

I also really like Jim Hjelm.

    I have a dress that I like:

I don't have my heart set on it though.  I have no idea how much it is, I'm convinced it will look hideous on me, and I'm NEY.
I think it's Maggie Sottero, I'm not sure.

I looked at TONS of dresses online before I went dress shopping. What I looked at online went out the window when I went to the stores. All the stores around me that I went to let you look through all the dresses and didn't make you sit in a room and wait for dresses like SYTTD. I would have hated that. IMO once you get out to stores and start looking at dresses in person and trying them on what you liked online may not be what you like in person. A hard thing to tell online is what the material looks/feels like in person and also how the dress feels on. Both dresses that I bought, I didn't like the stock photos of them online at all and would have never picked them out to try on based on the photos. As far as designers, once I was actually trying on dresses I really liked Allure.

I've browsed dresses, but I know my budget will be very small so I've decided not to get my heart set on anything that is actually a particular designer. It is really ok with me . . . I'm not really a fashionista by any stretch of the imagination. I will cross that bridge when it is time.

Wrkn - A store by me has a dress that is very similar to the one you posted. That one is a Mia Solano  and is $826. Just in case you were wondering.

Agreed, along with Melissa Sweet.  Never thought I be a lace bride, but I like the sweet romantic feel to it.

I really like the pictures of Jim Hjelm dresses, but it might just be the way he styles the photos.  The color of the flowers and the dark haired models are all just beautiful.

I love lace dresses.  I hate beading.  I hate the way ballgowns look on me.  I don't want to wear strapless.  And I really dislike pick-ups.  I also have no desire to have a long train.  Those things I'm quite sure will not change once I try on dresses.  Trumpet or A-Line?  We'll see what works.  No train or short train?  I gotta see how they feel.

The area around my tummy is also an unknown.  I don't know if I want a ribbon or something else, or just plain lace.  We'll have to see how I feel in the dresses.

A dress I like right now is this one (by Allure):

I really like the idea of doing a convertible dress like this so that I can show off my legs and dance unencumbered at the reception.  I haven't found a convertible dress in a style I like, though...

Audgie- my parents totally wanted to get married in a hot air balloon (they crewed though) but my grandpa wouldn't have it.  They ended up getting married in the Catholic church my dad grew up going to.

As for dresses, I actually have TK's dress app on my phone and I have a few favs saved, but I didn't pay attention to the designers on any of them.  I did it so that when I actually do go dress shopping, I can give them an idea of what I like without having a random bunch of magazine clippings or print-outs.

I love Jim Hjelm (I love 8904), Paloma Blanca, and Maggie Sottero (Ida is my ABSOLUTE favorite)...  I despise Pnina.

I love love lace gowns.  I wish I could rock a mermaid, but will probably stick to a modified A-line.  I'm not particular about straps v. no straps or necklines.  Hopefully I can find Ida whenever I go looking (she's hard to find) and hopefully she's beautiful on :p

ETA: I also have a new obsession with drop waists

I love dropped waists!  But I have short legs and a long torso already, so I don't think I can pull that off...

I like the big ball gowns with pickups a la "Beauty and the Beast." Who knows...I might hate them once I try one on though. I also like some of the organza overlay ones. At least in pictures, I like corset backs and a lot going on.

I am in love with Maggie Sottero's Ida. The first time I saw that dress I just knew I needed to see that in person. I am worried that I won't be able to find it in my area, or it will look horrible on me.
