1 ceremony vs 2

Not too long ago I posted a board asking for advice about having two ceremonies. The first was going to be a civil ceremony and the 2nd on the beach in St.Lucia on our honeymoon. We were going to have the civil ceremony to avoid the paper work in St. Lucia. Many reasons why we considered this. Paperwork, children, family drama, and a dress etc.

At any rate I got some great feedback from everyone. Not one person thought it was a good idea. Some were more blunt than others but I am so glad I got the feedback. Since then we have decided to have 1 ceremony. We have decided to opt out of a casual civil ceremony and will have a more formal but small wedding so our family can attend. We feel so relieved. Now we can go on our honeymoon and enjoy ourselves.

So thank you to everyone for the honest feedback! It opened my eyes.

  • Well I am thrilled you have found a compromize that works for you and your families. Kudos for listening and thinking about what you were told
  • Pixie, thanks for taking time to hear everyone out, and I'm really glad that you were able to come to that decision.
  • pixie~glad we could help!  And even happier that you listened to the ideas of others, and were able to make a decision that feels right to you and your FI.  Happy planning!
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146
  • Pixie, that's awesome.  Congrats!

Dresses may be easier to take in than let out, but guest lists are not. -- kate51485
  • Good choice,
They might not express their feelings to you but most of your guests probably agree with the feedback you got before.
  • Ok so a different subject, I have 3 brothers I would like to somehow include in my wedding. Any ideas? We are talking a quick ceremony of 20 to 30 minutes.
  • that's great!

They could be groomsmen, escort your mother, read...
