Just Engaged and Proposals

How long were you together before he proposed? :-)

Hey Knotties!

I'm not engaged yet - still a few months away - but I'm curious: how long were you together before you got engaged? :-)

I've been with my man for a year, living together for 6 months if you were wondering :-)

  • We 'officially' dated for 3.5 years, but we casually hung out for 6 months before that, so I like to say 4 years.
  • 15 Months. But he purchased the ring in May and I knew of the ring in August. And he proposed at the end of September. Just breathe. Take a hobby instead of posting on every forum.

  • 4 years and one child later lol.
  • We had been together 3 1/2 years when we got "officially" engaged. But by that point, we had been talking about marriage for 2 years, talking seriously and doing minor planning for one year, and our entire family knew we were planning to get married.

  • FI proposed two days after our 4 year anniversary.  We'll be getting married on our 6th anniversary.

  • Just over a year. We'll be together for 3.5 by the time we get married.

I agree with the other PP. Just breathe, try not to think about it otherwise you'll know its coming and it wont be a surprise at all.

  • I'm NEY and we've been together 5 1/2 years -but we're 23&23 now so still kind of young.

We've been talking about marriage for over 3 years- asked me about getting engaged after a year and a half, but I was 18 and an overwhelmed college freshman so I told him to save his money for a good diamond (I'm an April and its tough getting anything with a real birthstone!).

I wanted to finish college and get my career started before we got wedding plans rolling. After I graduated in Dec., we both had/ still havehave quite a bit of family turmoil, so taking care of our families is priority over a wedding (I'm willing to wait to have the wedding I want and HATE that whole court house then big celebration a year later trend).

Just breathe. Unless there is some other reason that is suggesting you get married sooner (military, babies, green cards) don't worry. Everything happens preciesely when it's supposed to :)

  • 11 months. :) We'll be getting married after having been together for just over 18 months.
  • Have known each other 15 years.
    Dated since 2004
    engaged:since March 3rd, 2012

  • We casually dated for 10 months before we became "official."  We were together for 9 years before he proposed.  We are having a 17 month engagement.

We obviously take things slow, but please keep in mind we have been together since 16 & 17.  We felt no need to rush into a marriage because we were so young and perfectly comfortable where we were.

  • OP you are only 21. Enjoy the relationship. Trust me A LOT can change in four years. I'll give you an example. I thought I'd found the love of my life at 22. We dated about a year, broke up. I've since moved on, had a baby (out of wedlock), met a wonderful man, fell in love and am now planning my wedding for next fall. I'll be 26. And I don't care. Because I am finally old enough and more mature than I was at 21.You aren't even fully established yet. Live on your own. Pay your own bills, be an independent woman before you settle into an engagement. Grow, you're still young.

  • NEY, but we've been dating for a little over three years and (per him) should be getting engaged in the next few weeks. He's had the ring for 18 months though, so... I wouldn't get excited if you buy a ring or something because that doesn't mean much when it comes to when he'll actually propose. I'm hoping we'll get married on our four year anniversary, but because we're NEY, I'm leaving things open (as they should be).

  • 2 months.  Got married 9 months after that.

We were together 3.5 years and will be married at about 4.5 years (about a year-long engagement, but we didn't really start planning anything until we had about 7 months to go).

ETA: It was 3.5 years when we got the ring. There was never really a proposal, as such. We started talking about marriage when we moved in together after a little over 2.5 years together, and a number of months before we got the ring (his great-grandmother's) we agreed we would get married.
  • We met and started dating in March of 2004.  We moved in together in June 2008 and got engaged on March 13, 2010.  We were married on June 25, 2011.  So, 6 years of dating, just over 7 years together before getting married.

  • We moved in togerther on our fourth date.
Started talking marriage casually at 3 months.
He proposed at the 8 month mark.
We got married on our two year anniversary.
  • i got engaged after 5 years of knowing each other about 3 months before our 5 year anni and we will be married a month before out 8 year anni

  • He proposed just a few months shy of our 2 year anniversary and we just got married a month ago. We've been together for almost 5 years, now. :)

We met when I was 13, he was 17.
Started dating when I was 20, he was 24.
We got engaged just shy of 3.5 years of dating, but he knew he was going to propse to me for at least 8 months as far as I know, maybe longer.  We'll be two months shy of five years when we marry.

</div><div>EXACTLY like my story, except we are 21x22. We got engaged after 4.5 years, and I'm an April also but he couldn't afford a diamond :( but I have a beautiful Blue Topaz ring. We are postoning any real planning till we both graduate in december and find jobs. I'm just happy to be engaged!</div>
  • We met 2002
Started dating 2003 (juniors in high school)
    Engaged 18 May 2011 (8 yrs)
getting Married 18 May 2013 (3 months after our 10 yrs)

    1000% worth the wait!
  • We met in May of 2003. Started dating in December of 2005. He proposed in August of 2011. And we were married in September 2012. It took awhile, but it was worth it. He was not ready until he proposed. I know if I would have pushed him earlier, it wouldn't have worked. Just be patient. If he's the One, he'll be the One in a year from now. Or 5 years from now.

  • We were together for 2 years, living together a little over 1 year. We'll be getting married a month after our 4 year anniversary.
