Happy 4th of July!!

It's obscenely early. I know. BUT I'm just so happy today that I can't contain it!! The weather is AWESOME, and work is hosting a 4th of July BBQ today (which is HILARIOUS, but my Swedish coworkers are totally into it). So... WEEEE!!!

What is everyone up to today? I assume it's going to be quiet as fluck around here.

  • Morning, Snips and D!

We're going to my folks for a cookout later.  BB is going to get some more splash time in today.  She had a blast playing in the water hose and the little pool yesterday.  Not so much a fan of getting in the big pool with me.

  • I'm going to drop in to a cookout later in the afternoon. This morning my goal is to exercise, do laundry and clean the house. I need to get my oil changed later as well. Exciting times.

  • Happy 4th of July!

I'm going into work for a little bit.  Not sure what's up for the rest of the day.   We are going away this weekend for 5 days and I really need to get this place cleaned up for the dog sitter.  So a day of laundry and such might be in store for me today.  We might go down to the river for the fireworks.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • VENT - We lost power on Monday night.  Ever since then there has been a beeping sound.   I have no idea where it's coming from, but it's driving me nuts.  It's not super loud, but loud enough that my ears are not in tuned that it's still on.

  • Good morning!

We're meeting our potential kitten this morning.  Otherwise, I have no set plans.  :P
  • Morning!  I did end up staying up til stupid-o-clock last night, and accidentally woke up early, and my sister saw I was awake and was all OH HI, NOW WE CAN DO STUFF AGAIN.  Soooo yeah, haha.

  • Good morning!  I don't have much going on today.  I am supposed to go to a park later with some friends to watch the fireworks but I have to see how my back feels later.

Lynda have you checked all the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors?  They chirp like every 60 seconds when the battery is low or dead and its really annoying.  Mine was just chirping the other day and it drove me nuts because I changed the smoke alarm batteries and did all the resetting and stuff and it was still chirping.  Then I realized it was the carbon monoxide detector that we had plugged into the outlet.

  • Good morning! I have no real plans for today. One of my friends might come over for some pool and grilling time later but I'm worried the pool will be packed. I'm kinda hoping that since most of the people that live here are Indian that they won't feel the need to celebrate by the pool.

Lynda, that would drive me nuts!

    Mica, that's so exciting!!!
  • Morning.

Happy 4th to all of the American Knotties!

So, our house didn't pass our inspection yesterday.  Everything looked great (even the 37 year old septic is in fantastic shape since it's in a dry area) but we ran out of water at 6 minutes in running everything.  Which was a shock because it's a drilled well.  So we'll see what's going on.  It's very strange, but there wasn't really anything else we could do...

Huh.  Has it been really dry up there lately?  My parents have a well, and we used to run out of water in the summer all the time, it sucked.

  • Good morning!  The biggest thing I've got on my agenda for the day is working on my tan.  I am also forcing myself to use the treadmill, yuck.  We're seeing a movie with friends tonight.  Man, I wish I was off the rest of the week but I work at home Thursday/Friday so I really can't complain too much.

In other news, I didn't get the promotion I applied for last month - I interviewed and then they redid the cert after someone complained and I missed the cutoff by one point so my name got tossed out.  But, the good news is, that means we'll be able to take our trip later this month without fear of having to cancel.  We're booked for Michigan right now but now I am sort wanting to go to Vegas instead......decisions, decisions!

Smoke detectors?  Alarm system?  Those would be the two big culprits that I can think of...
  • Bay - is it a dug or drilled?  It's really common for dug wells to run out of water up here in the summer, but you're usually 150-200' down here for a drilled well and usually get at least 5gpm out of a drilled, which is why we were so suprised.

It has been hot and wet at times.  Wet spring, hot and dry summer so far, but not hot enough that there's a fire ban.  That's how I judge the dry-ness.

  • Good morning!  I have no idea why I woke up at 7 this morning.  I was really looking forward to sleeping in today... cruel joke this is. Tongue Out

No set plans for us today.  H and I are cleaning and maybe going grocery shopping. I'm looking forward to not having much else to do.

    YOU GO TO MICHIGAN DAMMIT.<div>
</div><div>Hi!! Nice to see you all!  My work day is almost done and everyone is giddy with vacation stuff.  In fact, I'm considering working from home tomorrow if it's nice so I can sit outside. </div><div>
</div><div>H is feeling all revolting in Bangkok because it's SO hot and SO humid and he's definitely not made for that kind of weather. I tell him it's a good thing he got adopted out of Vietnam! HA!</div>
  • Thailand is always hot.  But I love it.

If he weren't there for business, I'd say go north to Chiang Mai for cooler weather.  But that won't help A's case, I guess.

Luckily everywhere you go for business is air-conditioned.
  • Habs, I honestly have no idea.  Sorry, I am totally no help.

  • Habs are they sure it's that you actually ran out of water and not a malfunction with the pump?  A couple months ago I ran out of water at night and thoght our well was dry or having problems.  Turns out it was just the pump and a corroded connection that was keeping the pump from kicking on and pumping in water for the house.

  • Cfas, where the eff have you been?!

Mica, yeah, he's a bit stuck there.  But he said he went to see a giant buddha statue yesterday. heh
  • We aren't sure, because it's not our well.  Our realtor told their realtor and she talked to them and they are completely bewildered.  They think we did something awful to it last night when we did the inspection to make it malfunction.  We ran 4 taps and one tub and ran out of water at 6 minutes.  Now, they had run the washing machine, the dishwasher and had showers before we got there (the tub was still wet, dishes still hot and clothes still in the washer) but 6 minutes is insane.  It should be back at capacity in 30 minutes if it runs out.

So they said they had 7 people living there for the weekend and it was fine, no water problems.  Maybe they burnt out their pump with 7 people there?  Who knows.  So it's their word against ours.  We're both bewildered because drilled wells usually don't cause a problem, but we can't get in there to see what the actual problem is because we can't really tinker with someone else's well.  So we're at a bit of a stale impass.  We have until Friday to waive the conditions, but unless they have someone out there to look at it and can prove to us someway that it works, then what do we do?  We can't prove to them that it didn't work...

  • Morning.  I have been up for an hour now, and I still want to be sleeping.  We got home from our friends house last night around 1:30am...I read for a while and then layed in bed until like 4:30am when I finally drifted to sleep.  I didn't sleep well.  I had planned on maybe checking out our towns fair and art show..but now I think I just want to lay around and nap all day.
  • Good morning ladies.  Happy 4th to everyone.  Mica, I am so excited to hear how your kitty meeting goes, she/he is so cute.  Cleopatra's 17th birthday is on the 15th, and I admit I do find myself thinking about my "next" cat, and I really would like a bengal.  I think they are similar to Savannahs.

I had my first appointment with my seamstress last night, I only need $100 in alterations, I feel like I won the lottery woo hoo.  Today I am addressing invitations.  I will get them done... I willl get them done...
  • My 4th of July got shot in the butt and flushed down the toilet - kinda literally.

My party today is cancelled.  The one with my BFFs, my grandbabies, 2 oldest DDs and SIL.  The one with 20 pounds of pulled pork, water balloons, slip and slides, badminton, eat your self stupid, and drink margaritas and sangria.  Even had kiddie sangria ready to rock for the kids.

Just before I started my cooking marathon yesterday the headache I've had for 3 days got far worse and then I couldn't keep anything down.  Soooo, my plans for today?  Nothin.  Well, I'm down to just having a headache now so I think I can go ahead and cook the pulled pork.  Thank God for the food saver on this one.

Oh, yeah - someone will have to drink some of the margs so later today I will see what I can do about that.

I hope you all have a great day (really!) and enjoy yourselves!  I will reschedule the whole 4th of July theme thing and the neighbors will think I'm nuts.  Again.
  • Ugh, KM, that sucks.  Feel better!

I just got a phone call on our house phone. When I looked at the caller id it said it was some hospital.  My heart sank, with all the medical issues all our parents have been having.  Yeah it was a damn wrong number.  ugh!
  • hahaha eagles you are hilarious!

edie: yeah, tests are done...dad has bone spurs on two vertebrae and arthritis in his hip.
mom is continuing on with regulr antibiotics..the catscan showed nothing new, the haven't rescheduled her biopsy yet.  and MIL's bloodwork came back clear, no lyme disease.
  • Morning. I don't feel well. FI has to study all day so I'll probably just be home. I may try to clean a bit, if I feel better. We may go see fireworks tonight, but I'm not sure.

Oh, KM, that is awful. I hope your headache goes away. Bleh.

Mica, exciting about potential kitty. Kittens are the best. Although mine was a shiiiit this AM at about 5:30, thinking it was breakfast time already. Ummm, no.

ETA: Hockey, SO glad it was a wrong number!

Middle daughter just left for her first parade appearance of the day in a neighboring town. (She's Miss SD PreTeen, even though she's 14. Weird.) Anyway, she looked too freakin' cute in her little dress. She's so tiny. If she weren't my daughter, I'd have to hate her. We'll go to the parade in our town this PM.

I plan on eating a ton and watching all the assembled kids at our friends' house blow up stuff. Should be a good time.
