Tattoo Cover-Up

hi,

i have a decent-sized tattoo on my back (it's pretty with bird and flowers) - but i don't want it to show at my sister's wedding at the end of june. i don't want to take attention away from my sister. my dress is open in the back with straps. the first part of the wedding will be outside.

i've looked up tons of tattoo-cover ups. and see good ratings, then so-so ratings for the same product on different pages. has anyone used a product (actually used it, not heard about it) and have it work? i need something that doesn't rub off as well.

please help!
thank you!
(wedding is june 22nd)

PS. please don't post 'well you shouldn't have gotten a tattoo'. part of it was done when i lived abroad, and is a great memento. please post with helpful info only. thank you!

Re: Tattoo Cover-Up

  • Are you the one concerned or is your sister also concerned about it being covered up?  You sound like a very thoughtful sister, but if it is tasteful I wouldn't worry about it.  It is part of who you are and the guests are still going to be most concerned with the bride and groom.

Someone else posted something like this a while back and it seemed that most people had  bad luck finding a good cover up.  I agree with PP.  I have a tattoo of a butterfly on my back and I debating on if I should cover it.  In the end it's me and I decided that I didn't want to change my appearance.

If you are set on covering it.  Maybe talk to a make up artist.

It would look horrible if it only partially covered or smeared or sweated off during the ceremony.

  • thanks!
i'm the one who is concerned. plus i don't want to be judged by the groom's family - many are old fashioned, which is the 2nd reason why i am looking for info

  • As long as its tastefull I say wear it proudly. You picked it, you love it and you will have it forever. I certainly wouldn't cover it for your sister's, husband's family. Unless you never plan to socialize with them ever again at some point they will see it.

  • I used the tattoo cover up from sephora by kat von d.I used it on my kneck tatoos which are all black and it hid them okay it just took 4 layers of it to cover it all up and it stayed on all day.I would go in  to a sephora and use the tester first before you buy it.Every sephora ive been in the ladies were really helpful and im sure they will help you apply it.

  • I have a small tatttoo on my forearm and whenever I'm going to any conservative events, I use this product called Tattoo Camo. I'm proud of it and I love to show it off, but I know how you feel and this is the best cover up I've tried so far. If you apply it well, no one would ever know. Hope this helps!

  • I have paper white skin and had awful, awful luck trying to find anything to cover my tattoo.  I went to Sephora and Ulta before I scrapped the idea of covering mine up.  They tried tattoo coverups in addition to using different combinations of regular makeup.  Although they still couldn't get it light enough, I did learn that anybody who is more tan than me has a lot of options and just needs to find the right one.
I'd just take some time and test some different ones out.  Once you do find the right shade and coverage for you, though, I hear that the translucent powder is the key to keeping it on all day.
  • i'm pretty light/fair/pasty (haha) - although i am getting some color due to the nice weather we have been having. i still don't get too dark/tan. (i'm naturally blonde - so my skin is fair)
you all have been helping a lot! it's good to hear about personal experiences :)

Dermablend specializes in this type of thing.. it's expensive but works like a charm.. check out this video

i imagine you won't need the same amount of coverage that guy did but at least it shows how the makeup works.

eta - they sell dermablend at macys and lord & taylor. the tattoo stuff however you might have to order. just ask the chicks at the counter they're helpful ;)
