XP Table Linen poll

Hello all. I'll try to keep this short. Our May 8th wedding is being planned around a navy and clover green nautical/preppy feeling.
I just found out yesterday that our reception venue does not have the navy table cloths that they thought they had. They have very nice royal blue full length cloths that I can use for free. OR I can pay 5 dollars a table to have dark navy square overlays on top of full length white cloths- we have 20 tables so this will be $100.

  • Use the regular white, and then make (rent, buy, whatever) table runners.  Way more awesome and interesting to look at.
  • Table runners are a good idea, and would be very inexpensive to make. My mom is making us a navy/whie striped aise runner for the ceremony.
Would nautical striped table runners on blue tablecloths be too casual? I ordered white hydrangea centrepieces with the plan of having dark navy table linens.
  • When you say they don't match, what are they not matching?

  • If your budget allows, I think that doing the white with the navy would be pretty.

If it doesn't, consider just doing white table cloths. We had so much color at our tables that the white table cloths kept it from being overwhelming.

Why would it be too casual?
  • I said B. I like Amoros suggestion as well.

I ordered Navy, white and clover table numbers from etsy, the bridesmaids gowns are Midnight (dark navy), and the wedding cake is whie with Navy details.

If I use white table cloths everything will be white- flowers, plates, and linens. They do have navy napkins that are free.

If I use the royal blue (that have a slight sheen) I'm afraid it will look like I tried to match but failed.
  • I like the table runner idea. I'll run it by Fi and see what he thinks.

With round tables would you use one runner, or two crossed in the middle?
  • I also agree that runners are a good option. We used them, both for cost and so that it wouldn't look like Barney threw up all over the reception. I think it looked really nice. We did use table cloths on the head table and cake table though, so that my dress wouldn't blend with the white table cloth.

  • I'm with Amoro. White cloths with interesting table runners would be nicer than a solid darker colour anyway, IMO.
  • I wouldn't use the royal blue cloths because it will be A LOT of color. Cobalt blue was one of our main colors and it. was. bright. I'm glad I didn't use the cobalt table cloths. But that's just me.

I think navy table cloths with a striped table runner would look awesome, but I'm not a fan of paying for it, so I would either use the overlays or just have all white linens.

I like this idea.  Granted, I didn't read the remainder of the responses.  I'm using a navy blue and orange color scheme. :)
