two thousand and twelve vs. two thousand twelve?

Oh the things you question when doing invites! I've seen both versions of the year... how did you ladies word it?

Re: two thousand and twelve vs. two thousand twelve?

  • I did two thousand and twelve, but that seems to be unpopular from comments to other people who have posted their invites for proofing. Someone who doesn't use the "and" is there a specific reason? I've been wondering this. Like OP I've seen both versions.
  • I didn't put the year at all because I got tired of thinking about it lol

  • In numbers the word "and" indicates a decimal. Since technically the year is a number it should have no "and".

awwww, this makes sense like on checks.  Honestly I hadn't really thought of it, but I think in my draft I had no and.

  • i used "two thousand twelve"
ditto to "and" meaning a decimal, my sister is a math teacher and helped with the invites, she wouldnt let me put an "and" even if i wanted to, lol

  • Thanks ladies... two thousand twelve it is! At this rate, it might take me all night to order these invites - I can't stop reading and rereading to make sure they're perfect, LOL :) At least I've given myself a deadline of 1159 tonight - Wedding Paper Divas is having a 25% off entire invitation purchase sale ending today that I'm determined to take advantage of!

  • Yup, I was also going to say that 'and'  in numbers indicates a decimal.  Now I am nervous we added the and  by accident.

  • After knowing the reasoning we actually did end up taking out the "and" :) Thanks for explaining, makes total sense now! We had to reprint anyway because when I printed over the weekend our printer scaled down to 93% for some unknown reason (me not looking at the settings close enough...). I printed and cut them to size tonight! Assembling tomorrow! Then maybe I'll get my siggy updated ;)
  • I used two thousand twelve

  • We just put the numbers themselves. I'd never heard the "and" indicating a decimal before. Although I did have one teacher who always explained it by saying "And isn't a number" :P
  • Whoops, I should have had people here proof mine (my mom did and she's so good with this stuff, ha), as I'm an "and twelve"-er. Oh well. Certainly not going to have them reprinted. Pretty sure no one will be too confused about what year to join us, at least. ;)

  • Gramatically I believe it should be two thousand twelve, but my mom is insisting on using the and because it is more formal... I think she is crazy, but it's not worth an arguement.
