Boston Destination wedding???

Hey ladies!  Im a knottie, who until recently was planning a wedding in my home state, NJ.   I decided today, that I dont really want a big jersey wedding.  Its not me, and its not FI.  We're going destination.   FI went to school in Worchester and I think Boston is the best city on earth, so we're toying with the idea of a fall wedding in New England.   We're looking for something small, with a max of 50 guests, and a budget of around $10,000.  Give or take.   Maybe a B&B?  Or a small inn?  Something simple and warm.   An event planner, I am not, so any ideas you girls can give me, or point me in the direction of some suggested venues would really be appreciated.

    We're doing a "destination wedding" to Boston because my fiance grew up around Boston and we met while working there.  We live in Germany, so I can tell you that I had to research everything since it had been a while since I'd live there - but definitely wanted something in the city, but low-key for planning purposes.  We're having a maximum of 40 attending.

    We decided to do it on a Sunday when rates would be cheaper.  We're having our ceremony at the Old State House.  It's indoors, so if we have inclement weather, it's not a problem.  The current rate for rental of one of the rooms for 2 hours is $700 - not bad - check the website and contact them to make sure that's the right rate.  Beautiful - no need to decorate (saving $$).  Then, we decided to just have a dinner for 40 folks at a restaurant.  We're doing the Marliave in Boston.  French inspired.  And the restaurant and views are good - so no need for additional decoration.  You can call and talk to the owner and he can tell you about meals, drinks, etc.  You usually have a minimum to meet - so, he can work with your budget.

    Nice idea!  Since you and your guests will be coming from NJ, do you expect most of them to drive or fly? 
    If your guests will be driving, it might be good to find a spot nearer to the Mass Pike.  I am thinking that Old Sturbrdge Village might fit the bill for your wedding. There would be lots for your guests to do, and it would be close enough to the major highway they could find their way there and back without a problem.

    There's also a place in New Marlboro MA that does weddings. I saw this in a magazine, and loved the location. You can see if this might fit the bill for you:

    Nessi - I just have to agree with you that Boston is the best city on earth!!

    Congrats!! -- I don't have any exact places in mind.. but what about a restaurant itself someplace with a nice open area??? I'm sure you can snag something for $10,000 but it probably will be without all the bells and whistles.

    are you looking to get married and have the reception in 1 place or are you looking for a church also??

    this could change venues!!!

    Sturbridge is NICE.. but it's technically NOT Boston... :)

    Thanks for the input, girls! 

    Im a freak...and was up til 7am searching, and searching to try to put together a proposal for FI.  Lol    Ive come up with some great ideas.   I like to have the ceremony in a different location.  Ive come with with the Old State House, Public Gardens and 2 different churches. 

    Then for the reception I went in a totally different direction and started thinking about restaurants.  I thought it would be easier to keep everyone in the city, rather then on the outskirts, for ease of travel for my guests.  Most people will be driving as its less then a 4hr ride, and it gives them more hotel options.  And for people with kids, they can find family stuff to do while theyre here, and the people without kids can do whatever the heck they want.  And you can do anything within walking distance.  OR hell, I can even throw ChalieCards in the OOT bags.   Enough of the ramblings......I think staying in the city will give me more options and show my guests a better time.     

    ANyhoo.....thanks again, and IM sure Ill be around asking lots of questions!!
