Anna, just a word of warning--Jan./Feb. is not the best time for Hawaii weatherwise, at least not Maui.  I have a friend who went in Feb. and it rained the entire time.  The other islands may be different, but definitely check.

I can honestly say I really LIKE my job.  Alot.  And it definitely makes coming to work every day a little easier.

If you decide to ship it, pay for the overnight shipping. I ship things all the time for work, and if you upgrade the shipping, it seems to always arrive. When packages get lost, they usually were sent ground.

Lacey - You're right. We had dinner with a friend a couple days ago, and he said the same thing. I'm tired of waiting, I want to plan our honeymoon! :)

Stephie - Thanks for mentioning that, it's definitely something to consider. We want to do a week on Kauai and a week on the Big Island. Whale sightings are only guaranteed between December 15 and March 15, but I don't want it to rain the whole time, either.

Yeah - they recommend 2 day shipping (it's stupid expensive... over $200)... which is what I'd go with. If I carry it on the plane, I'd have to pay tax, and for checking one bag. The cost difference ends up being like $35.  I feel like it would be so awkward to carry through the airport (I'm not a tall person...), but shipping scares me too!

Oh thanks, but we had some gift cards so we picked up a new one this morning.  It's great how technology evolves and how much cheaper they were then when I purchased my old one 4 years ago.

We ended up getting the HP Photo Plus Premium printer (scanner and copier as well).  It's pretty much the same one I purchased before, but faster, cheaper and better quality print outs.

Its wednesday, and the office brings lunch in.  YAY!

I wonder if I can afford a venue where I have to bring everything in.... Is it REALLY cheaper to do it that way?  It's so overwhelming to think about it, I have yet to put it all on paper.

I went down stairs and paid for the membership to the gym in my office building... then I stopped by marie-gabrielle and got a slice of cheese cake....  I'm just meant to be a fat bride.  HAHA  They told me I had to wait a week to use it, sooooo, what else could I do? Wink

Note to self: Don't sit around apartment in underwear during the day. I was just lounging around and the FedEx guy knocks at the door. At first I thought it was the maintainence people since we got a letter saying they would be dropping by sometime soon, thinking "oh sh*t was that today?" lol

[QUOTE]Anna - my co-worker brought it up when he was in the final interviews.  He just said - I'm getting married in a month (his was destination), so I'll be gone for a week.  Is that okay?  They can either say yes or no.  :)  I think if they really are interested in you - it won't be a big deal.  Life happens.

When I started my new job, I said I already had vacation plans overseas that I had been planning for several months. They just moved my start date back 2 weeks, it worked out fine.  Some companies will start you, then you can take vacation using "negative" days that you haven't accrued yet, it just means you have to wait a little extra longer to re-build up that vacation time.

I'm a little over two weeks until the wedding and I am completely losing my mind!  It's like my brain has checked out!  Last night I met my dad and his wife for dinner and she turned to me and said "you're 25, right?" I said "no, I'm 26."  I said it very firmly and we even went back and forth about it for a minute.  Then about 5 min. later I said "WAIT, I am only 25!"  As a matter of fact, I just turned 25 in May....not even close to 26!  How does one forget how old they are and add on a whole year?!?!?!?

Banana, it depends on how your company does their vacation time.  If you are "gifted" your vacation time at the beginning of the year (say, you get 2 full weeks and can use them Jan 1) you don't have to worry about negative time.

If you accrue a certain amount, some companies only allow you to use the time you've accrued - so for example in January you may only have one day accrued and would only be able to take that one day off.

The other option is to use your vacation time as a bargaining chip in negotiations.  I got an extra week when I started here because I had so many weeks at my old job that I wasn't wiling to lose out on.

This is an interesting SA Wednesday. I'm feel you on not being challenged I feel that way everyday and I've been done with my MBA/MHA for Two years this December! It's been hard finding something.

FI sent me Edible Arrangements today at work! They were amazing so delicious! Thoughtful things like that remind me why I'm marrying this man.

I really wish we could move the wedding up! I've complained about this before but my parents are driving me nuts. 10 more months!

(Sorry if there's been more discussion on this in another thread - I've been MIA for about a week because work has been insanely stressful.)  If it's any help, I decided to carry my dress on the plane.  It was a bit bulky, but worth knowing that it was in my hands.  (I had read a post on another website about a bride who checked her dress in her bag and it was gone when she arrived at her destination, and the airline was not helpful in compensating her.)  As soon as I got to the gate, I asked the attendant if I could board first to put it in the closet by the first class cabin.  They were very understanding - as soon as first class had boarded, I brought the dress on, and the flight attendant helped me put it away.  I chatted with her for a bit (they were still cleaning the back of the plane) so she would remember that the dress was mine and no one else should leave the plane with it.  Everything worked out fine and it wasn't nearly as stressful as I thought it might be.
  • edited December 2011
I'd definitely carry on my dress.   I've seen a lot of people in airports with their gowns (funny that I notice these things now) ... I don't think you need to pay anything additional for it as I don't see why it wouldn't be considered one of your allowable carry-on's.

Yes it's Health Admin. It really depends on where he is now in his job career. If he's in a position which the masters would allow him to advance then it'll help. Otherwise, he can get it and then work up to it. The only problem with the degree is that it's a broad degree. If you specialize in something it's a lot better. The program and school you go to matters. Being part of ACHE also helps quite a bit.
